THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Hays.

May I send my commiserations to your wife.

=================

Cynic,

Which charities and how and why I support them is private, but I certainly don't begrudge the government support World Aid is some form or another.

Also, I think it would be preferable to use British forces of one body, or another in helping to resolve human tragedies like the Philippines rather than stupid wars as in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If it was done by a sensible supervised organisation, it would probably do more for the development of a peaceful world.

It would be preferable to the bully boy tactics, which are seen by many tories and a renegade Blair and stupid ignorant Bush as the approach to other countries less develop than our own.

Also, Britain would smell a little better around the world.

On this action I congratulate the coalition government.

If more proof were required as to why Brits are becoming more sceptical when deciding whether or not to give to a charity, you only have to look at the Nick Harvey claim, it's obvious to all that he is prepared to pay diddly squat for anything from his own pocket, but like so many of his greedy MP colleagues' he can be more than generous with someone else's (the taxpayer) money.

The 'Shelterbox' operation and their work is phenomenal, they are very organised and quick to respond to disasters abroad.

a very fair answer fred, but the reaction of one or two others was very revealing indeed, as i commented

cynic, so what in your opinion do my posts reveal about me. That is assuming I am included in the ''one or two others'' bracket.

The Sally Army aint bad, at least at the street level operations.

Not sure how the management fair tho.

Fred1new - 12 Nov 2013 20:44 - 32707 of 81564

Maxk,

When I think of the Salvation Army I often have a little shiver.

But they touch and help the "untouchables" and not as pious as sometimes appears.

Their work is phenomenal and if I had a hat I would take it off to them.

The management appears honest and not directly or financially self serving, but I wouldn't have liked one of them for a parent.

doodlebug4 - 12 Nov 2013 21:06 - 32708 of 81564

Okay, since it is so revealing which charities any poster donates to - my own personal choice is - macmillan nurses, RSPCA, MIND ( a mental health charity ) and the donkey sanctuary - each of which I give a small amount by direct debit each month.

I don't see why any tax payer's money should be dished out to other countries as and when the present Government decides it is suitable, it's like writing a blank cheque without being a signatory.

Fred1new - 12 Nov 2013 21:09 - 32709 of 81564

Is there any room in the sanctuary for Manuel and Hays?

Fred - it would be a waste of money.:-)

Stan - 12 Nov 2013 21:40 - 32711 of 81564

Talking of the Salvation Army, I'm concidering my position as they say regarding the balls up of the affairs of the Coop Bank and looking at these http://www.reliancebankltd.com/ as a possible alternative.

Anyone else use them here, if so are they as reliable and as secure as they look?

dreamcatcher - 12 Nov 2013 21:44 - 32712 of 81564

Survived over 120 years Stan.

Stan - 12 Nov 2013 21:46 - 32713 of 81564
