pt ... post 327 , unlike England we are not deluded enough to believe we can win anything but qualifying for something would be nice ! England didn't qualify for a world cup for twenty years between 1962 and 1982 so maybe it aint just the money to blame.
pt ... post 329 , hope you pick and bring back Heskey and the rest of your WC flops (Lampard for one) , we gonna stuff you :-)

What those players need is a good night out (well behaved in a restaurant with good food and relaxation)....perhaps a little trip to some winter sports...(no accidents).....and then some mighty hard work on the field...boot camp style.......quick passing...training...shots on goal....endless free kicks taken by the whole team...goalkeepers included....the problem is that they are not clicking....!!!!...

How can we be ranked 6 by FIFA and France 21st.
Its stupidity.
Hoof the ball in the air for Carrol all match England. He does have feet you know. This is not the 1980s.
If this is what we have to look forward to for the future Im switching to rugby union.

They do not click in midfield and lose the ball all the time.... I think the problem is also with the defenders who haven't a clue as how to play.....Lescot ?...are you kidding pholden ?....what on earth is he doing in the national side....?....I would not pick him for sunday morning soccer !...

I've given up with the national team. You're absolutely right, too many deluded years spent believing we had some god given right to win tournaments, whilst in reality we we had been left behind. Cue Sky money post deluded years and the problems remain.
RF
He had a decent enough match, no own goals, no penalty conceded or sent off, which is the general yardstick I use for English players these days!

interesting article......
The real winners of the Champions League
Champions League, including Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said recently that it was more interesting than the
World Cup, has become over the last decade an extraordinary business enterprise, generating revenues that have grown to
the extent of the television rights. The golden age began with the 2000s: the explosion date precisely the 1999/2000 season
and, despite a dip in the middle of the decade, the amount of each of the last three seasons ... is six times that of 1996/1997.
Who wins the division of wealth, then? These funds are distributed among clubs according to three criteria: a fixed part,
one part "sports" indexed to the course in competition and a share named Market Pool, calculated based on the amount
television rights paid by each country ... What makes it a powerful tool to direct resources where they are already the most
concentrated. Thus, for the same route to the quarter-finals, Manchester United will hit nearly 29 million Market Pool,
Glasgow 11.9 million and CSKA Moscow 4.8.
To better understand who benefits most from the system, we have compiled data on the earnings of clubs during the period
from the 2003/2004 season to the 2009/2010 season and corresponding to a formula sports unchanged (except that of the
towers preliminary).
English clubs' earnings are more than double those of French clubs. But the gap is primarily between the top 5 and
thereafter. France, 5e, has collected more than double the Netherlands, 6.
The Big Four is not a figment of the imagination. Only four English clubs have competed in seven years. They made sure
the pie bigger, while cutting it into little parts.
La Liga holds the record number of participants (10) while having called the Real-Barca duo 13 times out of 14. Valencia
registration at three appearances, the seven other Spanish courses have one to two. Big Two is the option.

England makes a hat-trick on the podium for two titles won by Manchester and Liverpool - the Reds are only eighth. The
four big windfall realized with British rule over the period (unless this is the reverse).
One title has eluded members of the top 10 over the last seven seasons: the first year, 2003/2004, which has returned to FC
Porto to Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese club are 14th, despite a strike in seven appearances.
FC Barcelona will peak in sixth position, despite the two titles won. The Blaugrana will have "only" six appearances and
suffer from a Market Poo less than that of the French clubs.
Olympique Lyonnais ahead of Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, AC Milan and Real ... He has secured 100 million euros
more than the runner nationally, Bordeaux. This is the Big One in the French ... or German, since Bayern has widened gaps
with competitors like the Bundesliga.
Champions League creates, both through its competition format that its system of distribution of gains, a virtuous circle for
the benefit of the richest clubs: they are certain to recover a share of revenues which guarantees them a position very
dominant both economically and sporting - with the ability to monopolize the market for better players. Reforms (back to a
single group stage in 2003/2004, new access with better representation of "small" countries) have barely inflected trend (read
" A reform for almost nothing ").
We also understand how the almost systematic qualification for C1 is a condition sine qua non to stay in this elite. Between
those who succeed and others, there is now a world.
[1] Porto: 7. Olympiakos, Dynamo Kiev, PSV: 6. Celtic: 5. Fenerbahce, Rangers, CSKA Moscow, Panathinaikos 4.

Spurs won.....might go a long way in the champions league.....the Gunners are going through a bad spell.......not enough UK footballers in that side....probably will turn into another trophyless year as usual for that side.....one moment brilliant, the next letting in daft goals....but that's what you get if you don't have a British backbone....

Hope England win on Thursday.......the problem is Beckam is a bit of a jinx....not his fault but bad luck seems to follow him....and he will be present......the problem with voting for the Russians is : "promising is one thing"...delivering is another.....and what about the Georgian problem and the other caucasian troubles.....difficult to say what the situation will be in 6 years time.....I think that the Australians are going to win 2022......for Quatar to win: the world cup would have to be played in winter, because of the heat...not impossible but I think that the relative security of the socceroo land will influence their decision......I have to say that England have a cracking bid.....and deserve to win...but in football politics,...you never know.....it just could be that the first bids knocked out might support England....it's the safest route to a great world cup.....and any country can win here....and any country can win the world cup in England...good luck boys....!....

i don not expect england to win either, ....expect it to go to the ruskies
australia will never get it due to the time zone......sales of delayed tv rights are a lot less
i am thinking russia, then the US for the next one so that they can give the one in 2026 to the chinese.
it's all about the tv rights and cash.... noting else.....if it wasnt the dutch would get this one and the ozzies the next one...
but it wont happen

ENGLAND'S 2018 World Cup bid could be undermined by the hellish, unremitting dreadfulness of everything in the country, it was claimed last night.
English lady make you sandwich
Former Birmingham City managing director Karren Brady warned England will be competing against nations with sunshine, culture, clean stadia and women that don't look like wookies dipped in Primark.
Brady, now a member of the England 2018 board, said: "At this stage our only hope is to try and make a virtue out of all the rain and the vomit. It would also help if everything didn't reek of piss."
She added: "I suppose my dream slogan would have to be something along the lines of 'England - where the rain will wash away your vomit and nothing smells of piss anymore'."
Meanwhile the 2018 bid has also been hit by infighting between organisers over what excuses they should give FIFA for England's transport network, its inhumane sandwiches and the existence of Croydon.
An FA spokesman said: "One director wanted to tell them some big town planners did it and ran away, while another said we should simply cover it with a large tarpaulin for the next nine years."
Last night FIFA president Sepp Blatter signalled he would be willing to overlook the rain, vomit, piss and Croydon but stressed that Liverpudlians remain 'comprehensively unacceptable'.
He added: "You can't expect people from decent countries to get from Lime Street Station to Anfield without wanting to kill themselves. We may as well just machine gun them as they get off the train."
