How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Kernow

a bad job turned good -well done

Bakko

thanks for that - most interesting. Out thoughts are quite similar - i had 3 outsiders to back; karlovic, grosjean and Ancic. I have one huge lay - Henman.

Like you will be amazed if Federer doesnt win the title and to me 1.75 looks on the generous side, though as you say, no need to get involved too early in the tournament. The only reason this may be different to the french is you tend to get a few more upsets early at wimbledon due to the nature of the service and if there are a couple of shocks early on then federer may well shorten significantly.

I see Karlovic isnt even in the top 32 so will face a seed early on - i dare say his name will be eagerly watched in the draw by the seeds with the hope of avoiding him

Afternoon Everyone,

Very quiet on the tennis front this week with the big guns getting a rest before Wimbledon next week.
Just a couple of low key grass tournaments on. See:

It'll be interesting to keep an eye on Antic and Karlovic who are competing and are favourites to win their respective events.

Is Martina making a comeback? Just noticed shes on court (ordina) playing in the singles.

bakko - 13 Jun 2005 13:37 - 3347 of 10502

Sealed,

Yep, It's the Martina Navratilova. Apparently, she's on a wildcard.

Anyone here using AB Pro on the horses this pm.

Have just logged on and all the race cards appear to be distorted by an hour. that is - the 15.45 at brighton card is on AB Pro as the 14.45

is it just me or others got this prob.

Harlosh - 13 Jun 2005 15:54 - 3350 of 10502

Just logged on and seems OK to me Steve.

Harlosh - 13 Jun 2005 15:58 - 3351 of 10502

Bak,

Thanks for the Wimbledon summary. Really helpful.

Should be a great opportunity to earn a few bob as I expect the liquidity will be good.

I've had a small wager on Nadal at 27's. I may be wrong but can somebody that good on clay be so bad on grass? Maybe they can but I think it's worth a small gamble on him doing better than expected.

Does anyone know if the Betfair.com/lite site is down. I cant get it on my PDA

Scripophilist - 14 Jun 2005 16:11 - 3353 of 10502

Remarkable price action on the 16:20 at York, Big volume too 2m traded and still 10 mins before the off. Drifted out from 1.75 to 2.25 at worst.

the horse in question was rakti - would be approx 1.3 if it didnt have temperament problems. The horse ran away from the jockey on the way down to the start.

I got caught on wrong side of it without a stop loss in place - ouch!!!!

Fundamentalist - 14 Jun 2005 16:22 - 3355 of 10502

nearly 3m matched on Rakti

Fundamentalist - 14 Jun 2005 16:24 - 3356 of 10502

phew!!!!!!!!

Scripophilist - 14 Jun 2005 16:28 - 3357 of 10502

Wasn't on the race itself as I have other things to do today unfortunately. Just goes to show why you need commentary!

"without a stop loss in place"

I guess you may put one on next time then! Congrats on your escape.

Fundamentalist - 15 Jun 2005 15:14 - 3360 of 10502

Sundrop traded at 1.02 in running before being caught on the line!!!

Scripophilist - 15 Jun 2005 15:41 - 3361 of 10502

I've noticed while trading York the price movement seems to be more persistant. I've raised my stakes today as the volumes are so high and when a small move sets in it is seems to not be clearer but easier to catch. Or am I just having a better day? ;)

Fundamentalist - 15 Jun 2005 15:50 - 3362 of 10502

Ive caught a couple of small moves but wasn't trading the last one and the moves on azamour and ouija board should have been nicely profitable
