I've given up with the national team. You're absolutely right, too many deluded years spent believing we had some god given right to win tournaments, whilst in reality we we had been left behind. Cue Sky money post deluded years and the problems remain.

Champions League, including Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said recently that it was more interesting than the

World Cup, has become over the last decade an extraordinary business enterprise, generating revenues that have grown to

the extent of the television rights. The golden age began with the 2000s: the explosion date precisely the 1999/2000 season

and, despite a dip in the middle of the decade, the amount of each of the last three seasons ... is six times that of 1996/1997.

Who wins the division of wealth, then? These funds are distributed among clubs according to three criteria: a fixed part,

one part "sports" indexed to the course in competition and a share named Market Pool, calculated based on the amount

television rights paid by each country ... What makes it a powerful tool to direct resources where they are already the most

concentrated. Thus, for the same route to the quarter-finals, Manchester United will hit nearly 29 million Market Pool,

Glasgow 11.9 million and CSKA Moscow 4.8.

To better understand who benefits most from the system, we have compiled data on the earnings of clubs during the period

from the 2003/2004 season to the 2009/2010 season and corresponding to a formula sports unchanged (except that of the

towers preliminary).

English clubs' earnings are more than double those of French clubs. But the gap is primarily between the top 5 and

thereafter. France, 5e, has collected more than double the Netherlands, 6.

The Big Four is not a figment of the imagination. Only four English clubs have competed in seven years. They made sure

the pie bigger, while cutting it into little parts.

La Liga holds the record number of participants (10) while having called the Real-Barca duo 13 times out of 14. Valencia

Hope England win on Thursday.......the problem is Beckam is a bit of a jinx....not his fault but bad luck seems to follow him....and he will be present......the problem with voting for the Russians is : "promising is one thing"...delivering is another.....and what about the Georgian problem and the other caucasian troubles.....difficult to say what the situation will be in 6 years time.....I think that the Australians are going to win 2022......for Quatar to win: the world cup would have to be played in winter, because of the heat...not impossible but I think that the relative security of the socceroo land will influence their decision......I have to say that England have a cracking bid.....and deserve to win...but in football politics,...you never know.....it just could be that the first bids knocked out might support England....it's the safest route to a great world cup.....and any country can win here....and any country can win the world cup in England...good luck boys....!....

Former Birmingham City managing director Karren Brady warned England will be competing against nations with sunshine, culture, clean stadia and women that don't look like wookies dipped in Primark.
