THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

According to Freddie fruit cake every ones an immigrant , something about the shift of the Earths land mass. Well he would say that , to clever by half is our Fred, his the only Welsh man that they don't keep a welcome in the hill side for.

cynic - 09 Dec 2013 16:10 - 33799 of 81564

but there's a welcome in the graveyard for him :-)

How do you mean their were no benefits in them days, what about the workhouse/poorhouse.

ID Smith is ultimately bringing that back.

hahaha sticky :-)
i am pretty certain that in those days that jewish immigrants (they were predominantly ashkenazi) looked to their own community for help and of course being obliged to forge one's own way was a great incentive

goldfinger - 09 Dec 2013 16:42 - 33805 of 81564

No communitys left these days Cyners, its mostly just look after NOS1 which is a shame.

cynic - 09 Dec 2013 17:26 - 33806 of 81564

not true in either the jewish or asian communities for sure, though with intermarriage and peeps moving to new jobs all over the country or indeed the world, cohesion of the unit must inevitably weaken ..... there's good and bad news in there

cynic - 09 Dec 2013 17:30 - 33807 of 81564

The head of the UK’s central bank, Mark Carney, has said he will initially use tools other than interest rates to control Britain's economic recovery
hm! interesting i think

goldfinger - 09 Dec 2013 17:35 - 33808 of 81564

Whats he going to use then Warnings.

Haystack - 09 Dec 2013 17:47 - 33809 of 81564

He can use quantative easing to encourage growth. He can use credit restrictions to slow inflation. He can demand increased multiples of banking security to slow lending. There are lots of tools he can use to control the various money measures such as M0, M1, M2, M3 and M4. He can even require banks deposit higher amounts with the BoE.

goldfinger - 09 Dec 2013 17:50 - 33810 of 81564

Yep but were supposed to be doing all that NOW. Thats my point. Its nothing new.

Is he going to start handing down penalties.

Haystack - 09 Dec 2013 17:54 - 33811 of 81564

I doubt that he has been using most of those tools yet. The BoE only adjust the money measure factors when needed. They are not keen to micro manage constantly.

cynic - 09 Dec 2013 17:55 - 33812 of 81564

no idea sticky, but i'm sure he has better ideas than you (and certainly fawlty-fred)

goldfinger - 09 Dec 2013 17:58 - 33813 of 81564

They have been to some extent because the banks werent lending.

Vince Cable got on the case 18 months back and more or less placed your list in a weekend rag.

I think hes going to get tough with the individual banks.

About time.

MaxK - 09 Dec 2013 18:00 - 33814 of 81564

He has to use tools other than interest rates, cant do anymore there.

Haystack - 09 Dec 2013 18:00 - 33815 of 81564

Vince Cable has very little power. He seems to be tolerated by the Conservatives as something they have to out up with as part of the coalition agreement.

goldfinger - 09 Dec 2013 18:01 - 33816 of 81564

Cynic their is a case of increasing benefits greatly because the propensity to spend amongst the poor and working classes is very high. The multiplyers would then come into play and generate growth.

Chance of this happening.................................SILCH. he he.
