Though I'd start a thread as this is an event that all of us will only experience once in a lifetime......to me the best part will be the legacies with the superb infrastructure left behind....

Well that puts us above France, Germany & Italy :-)
Great Britain won its fourth Olympic gold in 24 hours - and sixth in total - as Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins triumphed in the women's double sculls.

Absolutely fantastic from Team GB athletes, the atmosphere in the stadium is electric well done to the spectators as well. Jessica and Mo were under terrific pressure to perform as the expectations did not allow for defeat, thankfully neither were found wanting, and for Jessica to come in 1st in the 800 was superb.

Personally I don't think football or tennis should be in the Olympics.

Terrific race all finishers sub 10sec. Can't say I enjoy the circus antics of some of the runners much (including Bolt) but great race all the same. Well done also to Christine Oh. in the 400 metres, silver to add to her gold from 4 years ago.

The male athletes have come up short, apart from the 2 gold medals and the sprinters doing as well as could be expected, the rest seem to have disappointed. For a nation with such a pedigree in 400, and 1500 metre runners the current crop are below the norm.

40 medals....superb performances.....the Russians have the same amount but they have been a bit unlucky with the gold.....winning mostly silver and bronze....the Aussies aren't doing so well either this time round...

It is so obvious why the England team always lose penalty shoot-outs, they have been conditioned to play the ball backwards for 90% of a match, so when they take a penalty they do what comes naturally----they pass it back to the keeper.

Sort of Ronaldo penalty imitation....I knew he would miss it....you get the feeling sometimes...and there is a total lack of imagination when in possession in midfield and this seems to be a big problem in the UK....nobody seems to understand how to support another player that has the ball...so usual stuff of a long nonsense ball across field missing the destined player 90% of the times...ooohhhh whoooohhhh...it is so irritating to watch this happening time and time again...my question is ; what on earth do they teach these blinkin' players at the training grounds ?...

Watched the last bit of the women's hockey and they seem to have the same problem as the mens football team i.e no idea going forward.

Stan- I was at the women's hockey in the group match v The Netherlands and agree we were clueless going forward.
As a Leeds boy I have pride in Nicola Adams achievement. She deserves all the credit heading in her direction.
