I have a Dell pc Optimist.
It's supposed to take 1GB of RAM but no what what I do the BIOS won't see the full amount. It was 99.5% stable with 1Gb but the BIOS and thus windows reported only 768 which was odd to say the least.
99.5% stable wasn't good enough for me as a full time trader so in the end my wife got one of the 512 sticks and I stuck back in a 256 which I had to start with. PC has been 100% stable ever since.
I loaded the latest bios release as well but that didn't help.
I am tempted by this:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=ukbsdt1&kc=npiuk4&oc=pe614201&x=13&y=8
I'll then bung say 2 or 4 sticks of these from here at 60 a throw:
http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~49979~WW~/Why%20not%20get%20the%20most%20from%20your%20PC.htm
add a keyboard, mouse, dvd cd-rom etc, rob the matrox quad port card from my existing pc
and I'm sorted.
The only thing that's worrying me is whether the xeon processor is the right animal for the job or whether I should just be sticking with a conventional P4 with hyperthreading.
All I use the pc for is trading so I don't need anything with a stupidly large hard drive.

Hi all
Over the last 2/3 days i have been having problems when using the betfair internet page. This is a page i have loaded every day and recently it has decided to start reloading itself approx every minute or two - it takes approx 15 secs to reload and i hence lose my opportunities to trade. No one else appears to be having the prob which makes me think the issue is with my computer, its settings or internet connection not the site.
My only two thoughts are that i am having a memory problem or my internet connection is dropping and reloading the page when it reconnects. Not sure if either are right though.
Anyone any ideas what may be causing this or a way to remedy it.
Many thanks in advance

Fundy - have you inadvertently got a refresh activated on their home page?
I've just tried, by setting the home page to refresh and then navigating to an event. On refreshing, the event page goes and the home page reloads.
Mind you, that doesn't seem to explain the irregular nature of your reloads.

thanks for the response but no, i have already checked that i have the refresh deactivated - also the refresher normally refreshes the prices without reloading the page. I have also noticed that it only happens once i have a position on an event - until i place a bet on the event it doesnt reload - im confused and frustrated!

Do you have more than one refresher software program on your machine?
I think it looks like you definitely have a 'Refresher' problem of some sort.

Thanks DP
Only refresher i have is betfair tools - i have deleted that and still the problem exists. i emailed betfair and they said it was a memory issue and to clear out my temp internet files and ensure a big enough temp cache - i have done so and still the problem exists.
Any more ideas?

Ruth. Are you having problems with your AOL connection today? I've rung them and they say they do have some problems. I'm getting cut off literally every two or three minutes.

I had this prob. with betfair- cleared out all history, temp int.files incl. offline content,DELETED betfair, closed the browser, shut down the broadband connection, switched off the PC ,re-booted and re-installed bet-fair- this time via a google search for its web-site, worked for me.They said the icon on desk-top was corrupted.
ps oh the other thing they told me was delete temp files the old fashioned way, go into settings and highlight all the temp. internet files and delete them from edit.

Anyone. I have Norton Anti-Virus ready to load onto my PC. I asked cmc whether it would affect their Marketmaker platform. Their reply was: 'No problem. Just disable it before you log onto Marketmaker!'
No I may have misheard. But that seems a strange reply. Has anyone else got this combination? Will it cause problems with cmc, E*Trade, or GNI?

Maggot, I think it's more likely to be a problem with Norton Internet Security than with NAV. Anyway, I eventually found you have to disable NIS then install (or run) MarketMaker, then whilst MM is running you re-enable NIS. Mine works fine now.
