THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

so you'ld divert planes all over the place and/or let them stack until they run out of fuel?

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 16:38 - 34196 of 81564

What is against Birmingham Airport?

(Other than it is bloody unsocial to picking up and dropping off passengers.

They make a charge, if this is done by car or similar.)

=======

But it is UK central with future good train connections.

I suppose the NIMBYS or old reactionaries.

I rarely if ever fly, don't like the delays to getting to the airport, booking in and out and the B. walk to the planes. etc.

Prefer sitting in my RV, reading a book, or watching the world go by, while drinking fresh coffee and eating fresh toasted buns.

if one built HS2 b'ham just might work, but much will depend on its location and ability to cope with a lot more traffic
i'm sure it must have been looked at along with manchester and leeds/bradford but found badly wanting for whatever reasons

an RV is what?
a campervan or more like a winnebago?

i agree that flying can be a pain, so if i go to paris or calais, then the train is by far the quickest and easiest
however, provence and the like is far too tiring and hard work and everything else by road
rotterdam is impossible other than by air, and the same applies to a great many cities even in nearby europe

Part of the trouble is that the whole transport system in England is creaking. If you look into the wider aspects of why this country needs more runways, doesn't it just reflect that our infrastructure cannot cope with the demand due to the fact that we now have far too many people living in this small country. Politicians - whatever political party - need to stop yacking on about runways and pay more attention to the fact that we need more hospitals, care homes, schools, roads etc. etc. And on the basis that, it is never too late, we need some realistic immigration control.

If you do want more space in the SE, What's up with enlarging Manston and connections?

Ed: Also Alf, use the train in Europe when traveling, far more sociable and a lot more beneficial for emissions.

cynic - 17 Dec 2013 17:24 - 34200 of 81564

i agree one needs all of the above, but if a project needs gov't rather than private funding, how do you allocate priorities as for sure there's a limited pot, regardless of whether or not the country is prospering

i suspect this airport project can and will be financed outside the exchequer, or at least i can't see why it should not be, but then i have no idea how these things are worked

cynic - 17 Dec 2013 17:26 - 34201 of 81564

Stan you muppet, why would you need to enlarge manston - surely not much larger than the original fighter command aerodrome - when gtw is already there as is hrw

perhaps you should put yourself forward as a candidate at the next election, as clearly you have great vision and imagination .... perhaps fawlty would even turn up to vote for you

Stan - 17 Dec 2013 17:27 - 34202 of 81564

34202. Raise it through taxes just like any other up to date Country.

Stan - 17 Dec 2013 17:29 - 34203 of 81564

Don't call me a Muppet Alf, You Muppet -): Just use Manston.

cynic - 17 Dec 2013 17:30 - 34204 of 81564

how much would you like to raise taxes to and for what sector of the populace, bearing in mind that the airport project alone will cost say £16bn and not forgetting HS2 at £80bn ?

Stan - 17 Dec 2013 17:44 - 34205 of 81564

HS2 is a white Elephant and won't go ahead. Raising taxes is not my job so I will not spend time working on it.

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 18:00 - 34206 of 81564

RV= Recreational Vehicle.

Mine is almost as old as I am.

But like me in perfect condition except for BC.

BC = Birth certificate

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 18:06 - 34208 of 81564

Not the biggest and one or two Americans are now twice the length and a bit difficult in the villages and back streets.

Fuel consumption like mine is to high, but as a drifter is fine for me and very comfortable.

Marvellous in Paris.

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 18:09 - 34209 of 81564

Cameroon caught out talking porkies once again over Heathrow.

How can the public trust the Con party?

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 18:12 - 34210 of 81564

Manuel.

"£100m and not forgetting HS2 at £80m ?"

Is that the tip you are hoping for after completion!

Stan - 17 Dec 2013 18:31 - 34211 of 81564

About time they sorted this mess out as well, And the quicker the better http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25411182

cynic - 17 Dec 2013 21:09 - 34213 of 81564

so what's a few of zeros between friends or even enemies?

you should be ashamed of that monster you (h)oik round the country roads .... get a campervan and at least be more eco-conscious or even caring of that 5 mile queue behind ..... talk of "i'm alright jack" attitude!

Fred1new - 17 Dec 2013 22:18 - 34214 of 81564

The beds are too small in a Camper van and the cooking facilities a little restricting.

This has inbuilt BBQ, Microwave, Fridges, Oven, etc. solar panel Gen etc. and wine cellar.

At my age I am entitled to my little comforts.
