A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Funnily, if one wants to access prices via Java it now also works instantaneously.

The new format is a great improvement. Paul Dodd

Any reason why the times of trades seem to be all over the place? I was looking at HSD.
Edit: wrong thread.

In Stockwatch, the note 2 column intermittently collapses to the minimum and I thereby temporarily lose some of the information I have recorded. Is there a way to fix the notes columns? Otherwise its a useful development

I can't filter trades by size or time, is this option still available?

Looking very good on Chrome Win7 - well done

NickCWA - 10 Mar 2014 11:25 - 351 of 734

Stockwatch works fine on Chrome/Android.

The Trades screen does not always connect to streaming.

George (ex MoneyAM) - 10 Mar 2014 15:37 - 352 of 734

Cogsy: You could never filter by size but yes you can filter by time. The option is at the top. You can sort by various columns in the filtered view.

George (ex MoneyAM) - 10 Mar 2014 15:55 - 353 of 734

NickCWA: When does it not connect to the stream? Is it something you can reproduce?

tournesol - 10 Mar 2014 18:14 - 354 of 734

working just fine for me. great improvement. thanks

NickCWA - 11 Mar 2014 17:08 - 355 of 734

@George (MoneyAM): Very infrequently I get live streaming on http://www.moneyam.com/trades/ but in general I get a "Connecting" message and after so long "Not Connected". This is the same for Chrome Version 33.0.1750.146, Firefox 24.0 and IE 10. I am coming from the stockwatch T icon, share price >> recent trades >> Show More Trades and when I enter a new Code on the trade page itself.

I have been having the same infrequent problem re connecting then not connected,(on IE) but on refreshing it always connects quickly.

Edit......I have put on the beta trade page, but left on here for info of Nick CWA.

NickCWA - 12 Mar 2014 08:47 - 357 of 734

Hi greekman, I tried refreshing but it stayed the same. Thinking of clearing out all temp files in Chrome and see what happens.

NickCWA - 12 Mar 2014 08:52 - 358 of 734

I've cleared out temp files etc and still the same problems

daviglov - 12 Mar 2014 11:29 - 359 of 734

BATS went ex-div today and is down (for example) 114 points but the "Mid Chg" column only shows -14 i.e. possibly a field size problem.

This is a very useful version. It works fine on an ipad, which the old java one doesn't. Also the java people keep messing about with java updates which require repeated permission which is stupid of them. Why on earth they can't leave things alone I do not know.

One extra help that would enable the portfolio pane to be accessible to ms excel import would be an excellent enhancement, currently excel reports no data available. This would automate an excel based portfolio summary without have to copy and paste.

I have always been impressed with your service. Live prices are a bonus although I understand that level 2 must be paid for.

We'll done it guys at money am!

HEINZ - 12 Mar 2014 16:28 - 361 of 734

Works very well

lotsofdogs - 14 Mar 2014 09:13 - 362 of 734

It would be nice to have a quick delete option on the stockwatch list , click on epic and delete. have always found it a pain when I want to delete several from list having to rember all those epics

normanb - 14 Mar 2014 12:16 - 363 of 734

Two minor bugs. My notes have not transfered from the java version, do I have to type them all over again or will they pop up some time sooon?

I cannot resize the notes columns, so they waste space, is this being worked on?

Finally when my non-java screen times out, I get sent back to the java screen. I would prefer it to stay with non-java when I have chosen that mode. Especially useful on Ipads. Is this switch back to java a ploy to get me to subscribe? ;-)

Seriously though you guys are doing good.
