Rats and sinking ships comes to mind.

cynic - 24 Sep 2007 17:32 - 347 of 1029

belatedly i am now short, which was perhaps as rash a move as when i went long on friday and got greedy by not closing as i had told myself to do

ockieb - 24 Sep 2007 17:48 - 348 of 1029

Tears......

Falcothou - 24 Sep 2007 18:02 - 349 of 1029

Am I right in saying that Rab bought 20 million for 65 million which would amount to 3.25 a share !

driver - 24 Sep 2007 18:08 - 350 of 1029

If they produce a profit warning what then for the sp. 100p?

explosive - 24 Sep 2007 19:13 - 351 of 1029

At 100p Driver my stop loss will kick in and the gamble is over.... The dividend RNS was nothing new, NKR will rise and fall sharply with just about any news.... Personally I love it, most excitement on the markets this year!!

steveo - 24 Sep 2007 19:27 - 352 of 1029

Gutted working too much today couldn't trade it, is it now range bound for the next week? Or will ex-div send it crashing further? Will have to risk a go tommorrow, and catch the sp when I can. Any thoughts on B&B, AL. Is it only a matter of time before they suffer the same fate?

Agree explosive, although lost out other week, have made proportion back, and helicopter ben helped me end week up nicely. Volatility great stuff.

hlyeo98 - 24 Sep 2007 23:35 - 353 of 1029

After ex-dividend, NRK will undoubtedly fall like a brick! Avoid.

Strawbs - 25 Sep 2007 07:21 - 354 of 1029

Shouldn't that be falling like a rock... :-)

UK govt hires Goldman Sachs to probe Northern Rock balance sheet - report
AFX

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Investment bank Goldman Sachs has been drafted in by the UK government to discover the exact value of the assets and potential liabilities at embattled Northern Rock PLC, according to the Daily Expresss.

The report said the Wall Street firm has been ordered to find out the scale of any potential liabilities facing taxpayers should the bank collapse.

The Express said Goldman Sachs was instructed only after the government had given the Bank of England the go-ahead to underwrite deposits held by Northern Rock savers.

All three parties declined to comment, the newspaper added.

Personally I think the call by MPS is just jumping on the bandwagon as all these feckwits do. Shoot 'em!

cynic - 25 Sep 2007 07:49 - 357 of 1029

Telegraph (front page biz) talks of govn't winding up NRK if buyer cannot be found ..... looks like one-way traffic for sp this morning ...... shall consider doubling up, but may be too late

Big Al - 25 Sep 2007 08:10 - 358 of 1029

Long 169p

steveo - 25 Sep 2007 08:27 - 359 of 1029

short 162

cynic - 25 Sep 2007 08:30 - 360 of 1029

short 165 .... and i think that sums it up nicely ..... for the moment, there are good chances of making money in either direction, but permanent vigilance would be wise.

Big Al - 25 Sep 2007 08:43 - 361 of 1029

Those prices right, chaps?

Big Al - 25 Sep 2007 08:46 - 362 of 1029

Out for +5-ish.

That'll do - off to do some real stuff. ;-))

oilyrag - 25 Sep 2007 09:19 - 363 of 1029

Its seem strange when you say that NRK is looking for a buyer. It already has a group of owners, every shareholder, as they own the company, not the board. For every share not in float a market maker of dealer has taken liability for it by purchasing it from the last holder.

There does appear to be plenty of support at current levels however, if I was considering entering into the fray on this one, I would wait for a significant drop after the ex divi has been declared and look to trade purely on the rises in sp without having to hold on for the divi.

The above are just observations made by myself and posted tounge in cheek as I see it.
