if europe is not sorted in the next two weeks there will be enough 650000 made redundant by mid jan.

2517GEORGE - 18 Nov 2011 09:17 - 3457 of 5370

T---- I think house prices are marginally higher than perhaps they should be, but don't forget over the last decade or so wage increases for the majority have been held down, exacerbating the housing market woes.

Excuse mem but isn't the issue that UK-Banks are up to their necks in Euro-debt, funding a lot of UK's trade (with Europe) - although I'm not sure who wants our stuff...?
Still, if the Euro fails it's said that UK will go into recession like we've never seen.

"Taking to the streets" . . . would not help (but might make Politicians and the City more careful), because it would spook our overseas Lenders - and our "Interest-rates" would rise quickly. We'd join the likes of Spain, that hasn't yet faced reality.

Greece, by contrast, just doesn't care any more, IMHO.
+ We should never have allowed them to enter the Euro - but like an Internet site - Management likes big numbers and visiting Heads of State gives them publicity - all politicians need to look busy.
-Ah yes, we didn't have a say, did we?

"Following the announcement of 2 November 2011 stating that the Group CEO, Antio Horta-Osio, had taken a short leave of absence on medical advice, the Lloyds Banking Group Board is pleased to note that Antio is continuing to make good progress in his recovery.

As part of its contingency plans the Board has agreed that David Roberts, a non-Executive Director since 2010 and Chairman of its Risk Committee, will assume the position of Interim Group Chief Executive in the event that Antio's return were delayed beyond this time.

Sir Win Bischoff, Chairman of Lloyds Banking Group, said: "The Board is pleased that Antio is making good progress and we are looking forward to his return at the end of the year. However, we recognise it is important that we formalise the contingency arrangements if Antio's return is delayed.

"David Roberts has impressed his colleagues on the Board and the Group's senior management with his understanding and broad experience of the banking and financial services sector. He has a strong track record in retail and commercial banking experience at the highest level."
