How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Much greener now than half an hour ago. Going out for half a strawberry and a teaspoonful of icecream on my winnings :-)

Aussies now look overpriced at 1.5 to me - England are totally dependent on Pieterson to win them the game

edit - Pieterson nearly run himself out there

compoundup - 19 Jun 2005 18:02 - 3456 of 10502

England may have just got 18 runs out of an over but I've laid them again. 2.04 is just not sensible odds for the run rate required now - just over 1 per ball

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:04 - 3457 of 10502

he says as Pieterson takes 18 off the over and the Aussies drift to 1.94

Hopefully, England will realise from this that they must pick a 5th bowler and that 4,5 and 6 should be in the opposite order (Pieterson is the one who makes big hundreds - 3 in 6 games in South Africa and Collingwood is the "finisher")! Personally id have solanki opening, strauss at 3 and the captain carrying the drinks!

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:05 - 3458 of 10502

another 6 from pieterson and the aussies out to 2.5 - glad i didnt get on at 1.5 lol - saved by not trading due to totally unreliable internet connection today - hopefully itll be ok for the golf later

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:08 - 3459 of 10502

Pieterson on a roll, now England 1.34 Aussies 3.6

Are we really not going to pick this guy when the ashes start?

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:09 - 3460 of 10502

Solanki run out to the keeper - England and self destruct springs to mind

now 1.9 England/2.1 Aussies

compoundup - 19 Jun 2005 18:10 - 3461 of 10502

Nursing a poor position but I still think England have got something to prove, especially with only 3 wickets left

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:23 - 3462 of 10502

So Pieterson batted at 5 in SA and made 3 hundreds. Englands response is to drop him to no. 6. Currently 70 odd not out - will he be no. 7 in the next game?

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:27 - 3463 of 10502

compound -if youve backed england KP looks like he'll get you out of it

compoundup - 19 Jun 2005 18:34 - 3464 of 10502

Am letting it run for a very small loss. I am going to Scrip's course on 7th to find out how to handle the "get out of jail free" tricks.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 18:46 - 3465 of 10502

Compound

the best get out of jail free trick will be clearly defined to you by scrip - its called dont get yourself there in the firstplace!!!

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 19:00 - 3466 of 10502

Bloody farce in prospect on the Indy GP. Pity I wasn't tuned in earlier to back ferrari/lay the rest.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 19:09 - 3467 of 10502

Kernow

you still laying Goosen in the golf?

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 19:19 - 3468 of 10502

Umm...yes but managed to juggle him often last night so only slightly red and well green on most others. A rash of birdies from anyone or an early bogey or two from Goosen is my wish list.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:06 - 3469 of 10502

I take it Woods start is not to your liking then Kernow

bakko - 19 Jun 2005 20:15 - 3470 of 10502

Evening All,

Just back from a weekend in London so looking at decent opportunities on golf tonight.

Goosen....very tempting to lay him off at such low odds. Its really down to him losing it. Its a really tough course and none of the first 30 finishers have broken par.

Any other thoughts out there??

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 20:24 - 3471 of 10502

au contraire Fundy - laid Woods as well @ 14.5 and not tempted to back him now. No Sky here though so relying on the web live scores. Come on Campbell.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:26 - 3472 of 10502

Evening Bak

personally think Goosen has the best game to cope with this course but agree the price is a bit on the skinny side. The way Goosen came back from dropping 3 shots in 2 holes last night was impressive and i think he'll be tough to beat

that said hes just chipped it off the other side of the green and has gone from 1.44 to 1.68

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:28 - 3473 of 10502

Goosen and doubles the second - just what you were looking for Kernow!!!

Price now out to 1.9
