Hi all,

Having a problem when loading up webpages, they keep paging themselves up and down regardless of what I'm telling them to do. Anyone come across this before and knows how to fix it? Driving me nuts!

tia

Assuming that it is not a faulty mouse or keyboard, I would start by running a Spybot S&D scan to make sure that you haven't downloaded something.

Sounds like a mouse battery problem affecting the 'scroll' to me. Try changing the battery.

eg, As mentioned Here

DocProc - many thanks - changing the mouse batteries appears to have fixed it - they dont last long do they!!!!

Can one of you clever computer bunnies help this one who's not so clever?

I need to create a document and send it by email as an attachment but it
is vital that is can only be read by the recipient and cannot be changed or
altered. What's the best way to do it and how?
Thanks Bun.

Kayak - 21 Jul 2005 17:55 - 3473 of 11003

stockbunny, you can do all that with Word, Tools/Options/Security tab.

stockbunny - 21 Jul 2005 18:05 - 3474 of 11003

Kayak - I'm in tool - options but can't find security tab......

Kayak - 21 Jul 2005 18:08 - 3475 of 11003

Maybe it depends on what version of Word... I have Word 2002. Look in Help for password and encryption.

stockbunny - 21 Jul 2005 18:10 - 3476 of 11003

Thanks I'll try that.

In Word 2K, click File - Save As.. and click the Tools Icon at the top of the box that opens. Then select General Options.

Another box opens where you can enter Open and Modify passwords.

Advice please as this is driving me nuts. I have a web page of a committee containing our pictures and made using a table from Word. It has worked for many years, no problems. Now I've changed a couple of pictures (small .jpg < 10k) and everything displays fine in word and in the "preview as web page". However when I upload to the server the images do not appear - just the placeholder. I have of course uploaded the images as well as the page. As an experiment I deleted on exisiting image from the word web page, uploaded etc (which worked) then replaced it again - and now that picture also fails to display.
I need to get on with my life - any ideas?

Optimist - 22 Jul 2005 12:58 - 3479 of 11003

Kernow

You should start be right clicking on the placeholder in Internet explorer, select properties and check the URL address. That is the place where the web page is looking for the picture. I suspect that it is somewhere else.

Kayak - 22 Jul 2005 13:01 - 3480 of 11003

kernow, check the folder for the missing .jpgs specified in the HTML (View/source). It could be that a reference to your hard disk or to an otherwise incorrect folder is specified.

Kayak - 22 Jul 2005 13:02 - 3481 of 11003

or do it the way Optimist suggested :-)

kernow - 22 Jul 2005 13:50 - 3482 of 11003

Thanks guys but...right clicking the placeholder/properties displays the url of the page, not the picture. It's like the placeholder isn't there yet if I delete the picture from Word then IE shows no picture holder. With pictures that do display properly the picture url is shown.
The pictures are definitely on the server - I can download and open them from the server. Frustrating.

Piptrader - 22 Jul 2005 16:11 - 3483 of 11003

kernow

This may work, but it is based on my knowledge of Dreamweaver, not Word.

If the page and the pictures on the server are in the same directory or folder, then the same situation must apply when you modify the page on your pc, ie your page and the pics must also be in the same folder.

If, say, the page on your pc is in a folder called mypages, but the pics on your pc are in a folder called mypictures, the link in your page will point to the mypictures folder. However, when you upload the page, that link will look for a mypictures folder, but if there isn't one on the server, the placeholder will be shown, even though the pictures are elsewhere on the server.

However, when you preview the page on your pc, the page will look for the mypictures folder, and since it is on your pc, the pictures will display correctly.

So if the pictures on the server are in the same folder as the page, put the pictures in the same folder as the page on your pc before you link them to the page.

Hope that makes sense. If this doesn't work, PM me the url of your page, and I'll see where the picture links are pointing.

PS: I think this is a long-winded way of repeating Kayak's suggestion in #3480 above:-)

Piptrader - 22 Jul 2005 23:04 - 3484 of 11003

kernow - another thing to check is that the case (caps or upper & lower case) of the extension '.jpg' (if that's what you're using) used in the word document matches that used for the picture.
