How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I take it Woods start is not to your liking then Kernow

Evening All,

Just back from a weekend in London so looking at decent opportunities on golf tonight.

Goosen....very tempting to lay him off at such low odds. Its really down to him losing it. Its a really tough course and none of the first 30 finishers have broken par.

Any other thoughts out there??

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 20:24 - 3471 of 10502

au contraire Fundy - laid Woods as well @ 14.5 and not tempted to back him now. No Sky here though so relying on the web live scores. Come on Campbell.

Evening Bak

personally think Goosen has the best game to cope with this course but agree the price is a bit on the skinny side. The way Goosen came back from dropping 3 shots in 2 holes last night was impressive and i think he'll be tough to beat

that said hes just chipped it off the other side of the green and has gone from 1.44 to 1.68

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:28 - 3473 of 10502

Goosen and doubles the second - just what you were looking for Kernow!!!

Price now out to 1.9

bakko - 19 Jun 2005 20:35 - 3474 of 10502

Thanks Steve for your comments and evening kernow too.

Great start already as layed Goosen at 1.53 and already at over 2. Could green up but will hang in there as that double bogey will surely affect his confidence plus others will be breathing down his neck.

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 20:36 - 3475 of 10502

Thanks Fundy for the commentary :-) Green now except Woods and Toms. 22p up if Goosen wins!

Edit - evening to you also Bak.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:43 - 3476 of 10502

Managed to lay goosen at 1.94

Also got a bet from pre tournament winning score to be over 280 at 3.00 - now 1.3 though tempted to just let it run

will be looking to lay Michael Campbelll if he gets much shorter

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:45 - 3477 of 10502

Was just looking at backing Vijay Singh only to watch him putt it off the green and his price double lol

bakko - 19 Jun 2005 20:46 - 3478 of 10502

Kernow, I don't have Sky here either so reliant on odds movement, live web commentary and scoreboards. I see that Goosen's odds have drifted out further still.

kernow - 19 Jun 2005 20:47 - 3479 of 10502

Well done you two. Be careful with Campbell though - he's good.

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:50 - 3480 of 10502

Bak

he just made another bogey - missed from 6 ft

Woods just holed a monster for par. Cant understand that singh at 2 behind and woods at 4 behind are trading at the same price - a nice pairs trade i believe

for scoring the below site is quite good

http://www.golfweb.com/tournaments/usopen/leaderboard

edit Goosen just knocked it on the par 5 4th in 2
Singh makes double bogey - explains the similarity in his price to tigers - pairs trade cancelled lol

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:52 - 3481 of 10502

Kernow

Campbell has only ever had 1 top 10 finish in a major - ill happily lay him if he's in the mix on the back 9. Nearly all his tournament wins are when he leads going into the final day (often by a wide margin)

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 20:57 - 3482 of 10502

Goosen 3 putts for par (two 3 putts in a row)

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 21:00 - 3483 of 10502

Theyve just posted the "Serious Weather Warning" signs around the course - they think it could hit in approx an hours time.

If there is heavy rain it will favour the players who have the longest left to play when they return (assuning suspension) as it soften and slow the greens making the course substantially easier, so be careful laying those in the last few groups.

bakko - 19 Jun 2005 21:00 - 3484 of 10502

That would certainly explain his wildly swinging odds, from 1.9 to 2.5+

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 21:01 - 3485 of 10502

If you havent got pictures but want up some form of commentary if you go to the betfair forum and click on golf you will find a thread near the top called commentary - the guys on there keep it pretty much up to date

bakko - 19 Jun 2005 21:05 - 3486 of 10502

Thanks Steve. Will take a look

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 21:07 - 3487 of 10502

Will try and keep commenting on here but about to have some food!!!

Campbell just made great up and down for par at 5, goosen 20 yds short of green in 2 (par 4) and Gore just hit to about 10ft. Campbell hits to 30 ft at par 3 6th

Fundamentalist - 19 Jun 2005 21:07 - 3488 of 10502

Woods birdies 7th to go to +3
