VANE MINERALS, A Cheaper And Lower Risk Route Into The Uranium Market. (VML)

goldfinger - 08 Mar 2005 09:20

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE..

COMPANY WEB SITE.........

http://www.vaneminerals.com/

THE PRICE OF URANIUM IS GOING BALISTIC...

The uranium spot price hasn't seen a down month since 2001. For years now, uranium producers have met just 60% of total annual demand - the other 40% coming from government stockpiles and decommissioned nuclear warheads. This can go on for only so long.

The tightness of supply comes at a time of atomic resurgence. Three large-scale factors have turned the tide in favour of nuclear energy:
geopolitics, global warming and developing world growth.

Analysts are debating over wether the SP of Uranium increase will be three fold within 2007?.

Looks like to me, the best play on the UK market for Uranium and it hasnt gotten away yet like the other two ZBA Zareba and URA Uranium which have multi bagged. Its also in a position to fund its development with a new gold mine producing. Ive added twice this morning and think this one could be very big. Heres the announcement...........

Vane Minerals PLC
07 March 2005

VANE Minerals plc (AIM: VML)

VANE Announces Diversification Into Uranium Exploration And Development

Vane Minerals ('VANE' or 'the Company') announces that it is diversifying its
current project portfolio by entering into the uranium exploration and
development business.

To date 7 uranium targets have been successfully claimed by the Company and 28
further properties have been identified and are under development. VANE expects
to finalise its property position by the end of the first quarter 2005. The
Company is targeting uranium projects that are either at, or near, resource
stage or targets that exhibit similar surface features to mines with past
production, but that have not yet been evaluated for the presence of uranium.

The 35 properties identified are located within a uranium district with
significant past production as well as significant resources. Due to the
current uranium market conditions, we prefer to not identify the location until
we complete our property position. Previous drilling data available for some of
the 7 properties successfully claimed indicate grade intersects from 0.34 up to
1.78% U3O8.

VANE has incorporated a 100% owned subsidiary to hold its uranium properties and
has also successfully recruited a uranium geologist, Kristopher K. Hefton B.Sc.,
who has considerable experience in this field and is a great addition to the
VANE team. Mr. Hefton has worked with VANE's exploration team in the past during
his time at Freeport McMoran, and he has also worked for Barrick Gold
Corporation, Homestake Mining Company and Energy Fuels Nuclear Inc.

Michael Spriggs, Chairman of VANE, commented, 'We are delighted to announce the
addition of these uranium assets to the VANE portfolio and will update the
market with more substantial details once further properties have been claimed.
The uranium market has been strong for some time now, reflecting a long-term
forecast supply shortage and the growing recognition that nuclear energy offers
a cleaner and more energy efficient fuel source. Through our extensive network,
we have identified some quality projects and look forward to releasing further
details when appropriate.'

syd443s - 15 Apr 2005 16:42 - 355 of 2220

Recovered a little during the end of play today (a sign of things to come?). This is a quality company you just need to do some research to know this. "Hawick" doesnt know anything about this company apart from nil turnover, but you have to spend money to make money. They have just started mining on most of there sites, they have money in the bank and they have laid claim to 3 more U sites whats more is they are under budget and ahead of schedule.

Am hoping for some more news next week and hopefully now this little tree shake has released a few more shares we should see some BUYERS coming back to nudge up the price again.

Madison - 15 Apr 2005 16:48 - 356 of 2220

The uranium news will be around the end of the month, though news from Guadalcazar may predate it.

What we have here is a company with an excellent strategy, a good management, the possibility of massive growth in the uranium fields but the reassurance of steadier and more predictable progress in in gold, silver and others.

And above all with a database of immense significance.

The company is about to become cash-generative and treats its shareholders well, with good information flow. It is simply too much to ask for news every day, and those that need it will inevitably be moving around a lot.

For those with a timeframe in excess of two weeks Vane could be very rewarding. (Personally I hope to be a longer term investor than that.) Being realistic, I suppose the very short term money will be back towards the end of the month. And they may well get it right. Or the news might be late. Or it might be next Monday morming. No one knows. But it will come - that is certain.

Just to explain further my comments above regarding Vane's excellent strategy, here is a little Sunday reading from minesite.com (20/05/04). What first drew fund managers to the initial placing was the strategy and model that I mentioned above. But this article outlines usefully the deal between Freeport and Vane

"Vane Holdings Brings to AIM Freeport's Exploration Database And The Prospect Of Early Cash Flow.

Another co-founder of Vane was Steven Van Nort, who is now CEO. Interestingly he worked with yet another co-founder of Vane, Clark Arnold, at Lowell Mineral Exploration for three years until 1986. David Lowell is a famous finder of mines who was awarded the Medal of Merit by the American Mining Hall of Fame for his successes with the Kalamazoo porphyry copper ore body in Arizona, La Escondida in Chile and Zaldiva as well as several major copper and gold deposits in North America and the Philippines. In the early 1990s he discovered the Pierina gold deposit in Peru which, as Arequipa Resoruces, was acquired by Barrick in 1996 for just under C$1 billion after only C$12 million had been spent on exploration. After leaving Lowell, Van Nort then rose through the ranks at Freeport-McMoRan, one of the worlds largest producers of copper and gold, to become senior vice president of exploration and manager of Freeports worldwide exploration activities.

During this time he was responsible for reserve development at the Grasberg mine which is one of the worlds largest copper-gold mining complexes. Meanwhile Clark Arnold, who had helped David Lowell develop and implement a statistically based method of porphyry copper prospecting, which not only led to the discovery of Escondida but also the high grade Santa Cruz copper deposit in Arizona, also consulted to Freeport at Grasberg. The two therefore stayed in close touch and there is not a lot they do not know about copper gold deposits between them.

People and experience count for easily as much as projects when assessing the chances of a junior exploration company. In this case the people, ie Messr Van Nort and Clark, came with the huge added bonus of having negotiated access to Freeports global exploration database which became surplus to requirements when the major decide not to carry out its own exploration and to concentrate on Indonesia in 2000. A modest amount of money changed hands and the deal is based on Freeport being able to back into 25 per cent of any project at feasibility that comes up to its requirements in terms of size for payment of twice the amount already spent on exploration. This looks a good deal for Vane as Freeport clearly has to contribute much more to any project before it can gain control."

Apologies to all those who are already familiar with all this, but there may well be holders, or prospective holders, who are unaware of this deal and its reassuring implications. Several posters have mentioned how important the database is, but this goes someway to explaining the underpinning that its future use has.

Cheers, Madison

How does this share compare with Alexander Mining in terms of management, prospects and PE? - sorry am not a financial analyst

Excellent post Madison - thanks for spelling it out for us newbies.

GF - once again I find you a steady hand on the tiller whenever the scaremongers come out :-)

Madison - 17 Apr 2005 23:41 - 366 of 2220

Baza, you don't need to be a financial analyst to compare Alexander with Vane!

Alexander expects to be producing copper within the next 18 to 24 months.
Vane is expected to be producing gold at Diablito "in May 2005 with the design capacity of 50 t/d to be achieved two months ahead of the plan as outlined in the budget detailed in the listing prospectus."

Vane is about to become cash-generative. I don't know when this might happen for Alexander.

Alexander's model and strategy isn't clear to me. Vane's is (see above).

I haven't looked at Alexander's deal with Thomas mining in detail but it seemed to me to be in a different league to Vane's Freeport deal (see above).

At present, to my knowledge, Alexander doesn't have a uranium exploration taking place with an announcement due in the next month!

As far as management is concerned I don't know about Alexander, maybe they're brilliant.

Finally, I think Vane's media and shareholder relations are well considered, whereas there has been a suggestion that this may not be the case at Alexander.

Seamus, good to see a new poster. I thought I was never coming back when I couldn't log on for six hours today. (Seems to be sorted now)

Cheers, Madison
