Regarding oil - check out the following news:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4492321.stm

superrod - 28 Apr 2005 15:50 - 3479 of 27111

oops,
reading the posts made me forget what i intended to post.

as a holder i dont want to appear a doom monger, but take a look at marconi ( MONI ). down 40% because they didnt get BT contract. all holders should realise that good tho it is, SEO is still high risk until the dosh starts rolling in.

bhunt1910 - 28 Apr 2005 16:04 - 3480 of 27111

Superrod - good reminder not to bet the house - only what you can afford to loose

Baza

robinhood - 28 Apr 2005 16:17 - 3481 of 27111

og, do not rely on bbc too much- i have been in oil trading on the spotmarket for 20 + years now only to find that newsagencies do not know their arse from their elbows with regards to commodities. Info I gave you is what the IPE (international Petroleum Exchange) is currently quoting for forward mkts. Admittedly crude and product mkts are under a bit of pressure today but crude is going to stay above $45.00 p/bbl for a long long time to come partly due Far Eastern (read China) appetite for bbls

stockdog - 28 Apr 2005 16:26 - 3482 of 27111

too right superrod and baza - only bet the house(s) you can afford to lose!

robinhood - I love it when you talk oily - I've always wanted to know what contango means. Does it involve turning me over (there is another side to me you know) or is that a backwardation?

overgrowth - 28 Apr 2005 16:34 - 3483 of 27111

robinhood - you're much more in the thick of where oil's at than me!

I just look at oil as part of the overall economic picture.

Probably a daft question, but why aren't China actively seeking their own oilfields (like the Qaidam Basin) to give them energy security ?

Also won't OPEC increasing the ceiling to 27.5m barrels a day help stablise the price ?

Slightly more on topic - good to see SEO finishing strong today.

bosley - 28 Apr 2005 16:53 - 3484 of 27111

the only blue i have on my watchlist is seo.
superrod , i saw moni too. the situation is different with asda and seo. moni were in competition with many others for the bt contract. asda are in competition with other supermarkets for seo's technology. as the chairman said at the agm , the only reason seo are dealing with asda is because they talked money first!!

EWRobson - 28 Apr 2005 17:24 - 3485 of 27111

Its a fine thing for stockdog to talk about disposing of houses - his kennels are really relatively low cost and he's quite hapopy to trade them!

og: did you read my posy passing on moneyplus's longing to see you on the MOI thread? Well MOI have announced a contract for the supply of, I beleive, portable cranes and services for China, so they are active but that will presumably be somewhat down the line re current oil prices.

superrod: agree bos on risk. Rarely have I concluded that the risk element is as low as I think it is with SEO: the terrific savings for the supermarket and supplier; the ASDA reference; their unique product (at the moment); their stance in relation to intellectual copyright and thus the recurring revenues. Risk, of course, is two sided and there is, IMHO, a far greater risk of the sp being far too low than of being too high!

Eric - I did see your note, and nice to see I have moneyplus as trading partner - though was flicking all over the place this afternoon trying to keep on top of some dodgy spread bets. I'll have a proper look at MOI when I get a chance - interesting stuff regarding oil equipment for China - my only concern is that it must be quite a costly business to operate for a small outfit so I bet they'll need to keep coming back to the market again and again to raise cash to create all the equipment.

I agree - excellent point from bos - "...asda are in competition with other supermarkets for seo's technology." - different kettle of fish altogether and great to be on the best side of a deal.

driver - 28 Apr 2005 19:40 - 3487 of 27111

I got this from fillyaboots

I spoke with SEO this afternoon and am pleased to
say my concerns were unfounded.

I was told that www.stanelco.devisland.net is not
connected with Stanelco in any way, however I was
also effectively told that most of the information on
there was reliable - but that I should refer to the
official site. I pointed out that this was not exactly
informative at the moment, particularly in respect of
Investor Relations. Apparently this will be available
soon (about a couple of weeks) the information has
been passed to the web designers and is being
transferred onto new website.

zscrooge - 28 Apr 2005 20:25 - 3488 of 27111

OG

The market corrections that have taken place recently have been because oil prices were too high - this is destined to fall.

I would have thought oil prices were likely to remain high given that Saudis are running out. Still good for RTD ;)

bosley - 28 Apr 2005 20:51 - 3489 of 27111

driver, you still here? i thought you might have been up and away to see harvey now that doncaster has its own airport :)

overgrowth - 28 Apr 2005 20:54 - 3490 of 27111

zscrooge - you've spotted my "secret" hedge against rising oil prices lol!

superrod - 28 Apr 2005 21:19 - 3491 of 27111

bosley
i appreciate the difference between SEO/MONI positions. i was merely making a point that it is dangerous to count chickens.

a lot of you guys who were smart enough to get in sub 6p or so are only going to see your profit slashed if SEO issues some bad news. others ( many of them ) have been buying well over 20p, so will lose a bundle.

i dont expect it to happen but in my 15 years share trading i have seen mega pain many, many times.

there are the super success stories as well.....the one that always aprings to mind is GIM ( geo interactive media , now BLZ). 20p to 35 in the relative blink of an eye.

come to think of it SEO is about 20p right now :o)))

stockdog - 28 Apr 2005 21:29 - 3492 of 27111

Dog Day Evening

Well, here I am sitting in Terminal 2's finest pizzaria, having bribed the manager to stay open long enough to bake a quattro staggione after a gruelling first day of the Bnank holiday weekend traffic.

Christ, do we live in a banana republic - one of two eateries (will not disgrace the term restaurant) closes early because they've had a hard day! I did try the other one - WSeatherspoons, but beat a hasty retreat and ate large slice of humble pie, barely leaving room for the best (and the worst) pizza in Terminal 2.

Anyway, I anticipate the joys of airport shopping at Athens airport at 4.00am with mixed feelings, before being whisled by plane-smaller-than-bus-out-to-tarmac to the exotic isle of Rhodes - home of my ancient friend Colliesos. A gay jaunt you may surmise. Wrong! A sudden client requiring delicate and immediate attention under the glare of the Hellenic (nay, Ottoman) sun.

The best bit is that I shall probably avoid having to honour my promise to buy NLR when it fell to below 475. Do go and read the posts of the last several weeks - it's uncanny how scathing my thread(bare) colleagues were of what seemed like vain canine hutzpah at the time.

SEO was indeed a stout performer today and Tom Bulford of RHPS says he has not been able to talk to the CEO as planned because he has gone on a road trip for PR purposes - watch this SPace!

Until Tuesday, unless I sneak off to a shady internet taverna for a swift retsina-hazed lunch tomorrow.

Yassou.

O Canos

Donny have there own airport but you have to go to Spain to get your flight.

bosley - 28 Apr 2005 21:33 - 3494 of 27111

i agree, superrod , you should never count chickens, but virtually all my eggs are in this basket. when they start hatching i'll buy the farm :)
ahhh! 20p to 35 ........happy days those tech boom days.

bosley - 28 Apr 2005 21:39 - 3495 of 27111

sd, you jammy get!!! you get to go to rhodes this weekend while i get morpeth!!! was that terminal 2 at the all new robin hood airport?

EWRobson - 28 Apr 2005 21:43 - 3496 of 27111

What's this - posters flying all over the place: to get away from the election? sd flies to Rhodes by Termianl 2 pizzeria; driver flies to Donny via Spain; og hedging in Saudi; bos, well, just being bos and hitch-hiking to Morpeth. Knew Morpeth quite well but not your Hall - hospitable and canny people though.

I'm just flying in a relative way: not only have we relatives staying, but I'm meditating on the theory of relativity. Relatively to the market SEO has done rather well; in fact it has done splendidly. All we need is for the market generally to have a good day; OK, whistling in the wind you say. In the mean time, raise your glasses to relative strength. Just off to NLR to see how stockdog screwed them up!
