A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

George; if he is getting personal service can you fix it that the stocks in my stockwatch are always going up. thanks ;-)

al100 - 29 Jan 2014 14:50 - 36 of 734

I made the new list on firefox, it was really for my phone so as to cut down the number of stocks, no biggie really. I'll have another go.

Edit, it's working now, restarted my browser, thanks.

Hi, I've seen a new problem that's just appeared when editing watch lists. It's showing in the Java stockwatch too. We are investigating it now.

UPDATE 1: The problem seems to be browser cache related.
UPDATE 2: This is not a stockwatch issue, it's something else we need to resolve.
UPDATE 3: The issue has been resolved.

Yep, looks good at the moment.
No doubt there will be a few tweeks to come, but far bettr than the Java use one.

Thanks team.

I wonder what Derek will be thinking about all this new-fangled stuff as he looks down from above (or even up from below)?

:-)

On the old stockwatch there are no trades in the trade column this morning. On the new there are old trades printed in the same column. Not sure why this is

The boxed format for the new Stockwatch does not enhance the visual clarity. It is poor on the eye. The old SW was very clear on the eye with the digits bold and enhanced. The digits need to be clear and bold, the name of the company in simple type is fine

Just a few thoughts. not sure if they can be implemented or not but thanks for all your efforts

cow,

thanks we will look at the trades thing. as I said before, this is just a technical trial, the design will be implemented later.

Ian

cow, thanks for the feedback. We'll see what the consensus is regarding the grid display and go with that.

jimmy b - 30 Jan 2014 09:59 - 43 of 734

I agree with cow the old display is much better and easier on the eye .

greekman - 30 Jan 2014 10:06 - 44 of 734

I like the way a line highlights when you put the cursor over it.

luckyhaa - 30 Jan 2014 11:19 - 45 of 734

Looks like fine....But Note(comment ) column old is looking good...New one very difficult to move

cowshapedfish - 30 Jan 2014 12:06 - 46 of 734

Other than the grid formation which is far too distracting to the eye everything else is the dog's bollox

I see we still have to use Java for streaming trades though. Are you working on this as well Ian?

Anyway, sorry for your hassling you and many thanks for your efforts

Happy

cowshapedfish- See above: NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

cowshapedfish - 30 Jan 2014 12:27 - 48 of 734

Just saw it George

Cheers fella

George (ex MoneyAM) - 30 Jan 2014 13:52 - 49 of 734

new old styles restored

galatica - 30 Jan 2014 14:12 - 50 of 734

the visual clarity is much better, with the old system
the vertical lines were alright, next stage is shorten the space for the - company name

George (ex MoneyAM) - 30 Jan 2014 14:20 - 51 of 734

galactica, we can't do this now. I advise you to move the company name to the far right by using the Edit This Watchlist functionality

jimmy b - 30 Jan 2014 14:20 - 52 of 734

I agree galactica/// shorten the space for the - company name..

jimmy b - 30 Jan 2014 14:22 - 53 of 734

Thats much ,much better MoneyAm new old style ..

George (ex MoneyAM) - 30 Jan 2014 14:24 - 54 of 734

personally, I also liked the vertical lines. I preferred the clear separation between columns
