THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

The motion was to accept the possibility of intervention with the proviso that a further vote would be required to actually intervene.

Haystack - 06 Jan 2014 17:55 - 35160 of 81564

BBC
"The UK government's motion was in support of military action in Syria if it was backed up by evidence from United Nations weapons inspectors, who are investigating the attack."

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2014 17:59 - 35161 of 81564

Manuel.

Pour another drink for yourself.

I assure you that I still see and it seems clearer than you do.

With your obvious lack of recall and failing memory, due to your advancing years I suggest you read the motion of the "Syrian" debate and the conclusions of others and stop being a dilapidating decrepit short sighted reactionary camp follower.

cynic - 06 Jan 2014 18:08 - 35162 of 81564

i'll just stick with the drink when i get home shortly (a gentle 10 minute stroll......

anyway i'ld have thought you could answer easily enough the question i raised re the labour party vote on this issue .... or no doubt hays can

Haystack - 06 Jan 2014 18:16 - 35163 of 81564

What happened was that Miliband gave a promise to support his motion. The Labour party tabled their own amendment to the motion which was defeated in a vote. labour then voted down the Conservative motion withe the help of a few Lib and Conservative rebels and a handful that did not attend. It seems that Lab took umbrage to their amendment being voted down and took revenge by going back on their pledge to support the government. Miliband was a coward as he did not want to be labeled a war monger like Blair. He chickened out despite the damage it might do to the US/UK relationship.

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2014 19:09 - 35164 of 81564

Hays.

You seem to be suffering from the same memory distortion as your "friend" Manuel has.

the Conservative motion withe the help of a few Lib and Conservative rebels and a handful that did not attend.

Doesn't say much for the cons faith, or belief in their own leadership.

Says little for Cameron judgement and as many say that probably was one of his luckiest failures for the UK during his of premiership.

Probably, the UK would be now embroiled in a protracted intervention, if he had had his way.

Even Enoch recognised that the UK was no longer an international force with any substance.

Cameron appeared to be looking for a "war" to grandstand as international figure to bolster his own party political position and like Blair before him a place in history.

He was copying Maggie for the looney right of his party.

cynic - 06 Jan 2014 19:58 - 35165 of 81564

fossy - since you claim to know the answer to my straightforward question, perhaps with your superior intellect, you'ld care to enlighten us all instead of rambling off on one of your customary tangents

or have you forgotten the question?

goldfinger - 06 Jan 2014 20:48 - 35166 of 81564

Agree with you on this Fred, in fact sick of hearing it...... Fred1 - 06 Jan 2014 17:32 - 35158 of 35167

One of the repeated mantras of the Cons, which I am getting fed up with is;

"the hard working tax payers", blah blah blah blah.............humbug.

No coincidence the mantra started when Linton Crosby joined the posh boys.

Dont like calling them Tories anymore. Seem to have lost there identity.

MaxK - 06 Jan 2014 20:55 - 35167 of 81564

Wasn't it broon who started the "hard working" bullshit off?

goldfinger - 06 Jan 2014 21:02 - 35168 of 81564

Dont know but its getting on my tits.

Must think its just tory boys who work hard.

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2014 21:12 - 35169 of 81564

Manuel.

I read your post and considered that you would benefit from trying to answer it yourself.

Hays.

Read the motion and examine the implications of the words used,

It would have be equivalent to giving a Carte Blanche to an idiot,

cynic - 06 Jan 2014 22:05 - 35170 of 81564

i have heard of a horse and cart and i have heard of blanche macdonald, but have never associated her with being put in front of a wheeled vehicle let alone behind one!

fossy - do try stop being so supercilious, though i am sure it is as hard for you as answering straightforward questions

Haystack - 06 Jan 2014 22:11 - 35171 of 81564

One of my sons is at home at present as his university has told the students not to come back this week. His exams have been postponed till next week. There are more storms expected this evening in Aberystwyth.

Stan - 06 Jan 2014 22:16 - 35172 of 81564

Oh he's not there is he? Gawd help him.

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2014 22:23 - 35173 of 81564

Hays,

I hope your son benefits from Welsh Culture.

There is a cemetery in Aberystwyth overlooking the "beach" interesting to walk around and read the the dates and the epitaphs on the stones and reason why.

There is another cemetery in Senghenydd, where there is a similarity, but the causal agents are different.

The one at Aberystwyth has better views. If you visit. do so in Spring.

David Cameron’s £90-a-cut barber awarded an MBE for 'services to hairdressing'

Jan 06, 2014 20:49
By Tom McTague

David Cameron faced fresh accusations of cronyism today after it emerged his hairdresser was awarded a gong in the New Year’s Honours list.

Celebrity crimper Lino Carbosiero was handed an MBE for “services to hairdressing” - three years after taking control of Mr Cameron’s thinning barnet.

The former X Factor “style director” is thought to be responsible for switching the Prime Minister’s side parting from left to right in 2010, sparking ridicule in the Commons.

Mr Cameron allegedly started using Mr Carbosiero on the orders of his wife Samantha shortly after becoming Prime Minister.

Mr Cameron is understood to have his hair trimmed in Downing Street.

He is just one of a long line of rich and famous celebrities who use Mr Carbosiero - who charges an eye-watering £90 a cut for men and £150 for women.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has described him as “the Godfather of hairdressing”.

He is pals with Jason Donovan, Philip Schofield and I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec and his clients include Sir Paul McCartney, Lily Allen and Zara Phillips.

His plush London salon Daniel Galvin is so popular appointments can be made one year in advance.

The decision to award Mr Carbosiero an MBE sparked anger.

It also emerged just days after the PM was attacked for honouring a host of other pals, allies and Tory donors in the New Year’s Honours list.

PR friend Alan Parker, who has holidayed with the Prime Minister and his family, was among those handed a knighthood.

Property developer Peter Emerson, who donated £41,600 to the Tories, was handed an OBE. And Apprentice star and Tory golden girl Karren Brady, who introduced George Osborne at the party conference, got a CBE.

Marion Helen and Simon Mort, both Tory activists in the PM’s patch in West Oxfordshire, also received OBEs.

Labour MP Steve Pound ridiculed the Prime Minister’s reliance on his celebrity hairdresser pal.

Mr Cameron has faced growing mockery for trying to cover up his bald patch with a “Cam-over” comb over.

Mr Pound said: “The bald truth is this - it must be a cover up. It may not be hair-raising but it certainly raises questions about cronyism.

“It’s a tight little circle gathering round the barber’s chair. We should make sure there’s no cover up - let alone a comb-over.”

Just goes to show how out of touch Sir Giddeon is with his speech today and future policy.

I don't believe it... That just about sums them up.

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 08:14 - 35177 of 81564

winter fuel allowance and bus passes
is DC absolutely nuts?
do i hear much agreement?
why on earth should someone with an income in excess of say £50k get a winter fuel allowance or bus pass?
these allowances were surely introduced, like free(?) tv licences, to help those who genuinely need same, not as a joke for those who patently do not

immigration
while cable is undoubtedly right that it will be next to impossible for DC to deliver on his target cap of 75,000, to ridicule the idea shows how totally out of touch he (cable) is with the strongly held opinion of the country at large
of course, one could possibly say that about the joe public's wish to bring back hanging

Stan - 07 Jan 2014 08:21 - 35178 of 81564

An MBE for a barber who has cut camerons hair? Talk about devaluing the honours system... if it did need any more devaluing that is.
