THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

"Its them that havent paid in that should have it taken away."

Which group are you thinking of?

Many don't earn "sufficient" to pay basic tax, but "put" a lot into society in different ways.

====

I would think that Basic Pensions should be based on "basic needs" and "justifiable" reward.

Many don't earn "sufficient" to pay basic tax, but "put" a lot into society in different ways.
is that so ..... would you care to be (much) more specific?

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 10:56 - 35191 of 81564

I would think that Basic Pensions should be based on "basic needs" and "justifiable" reward.
and the same applies here ...... would you care to be (much) more specific?

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 11:10 - 35192 of 81564

Fred sorry yes ive phrased that wrong. It should read nobody should have it taken away, including ALL those who have paid in.

But the main point is that Osbourne is using these cuts as a political tool to draw out a response from labour. No way by cutting housing benefit for under 25s does it add up to £12.5 billion at the most it would be £2.5 billion but yet he says of this £25 billion 50% will come from welfare savings and 50% of that is savings as per above. So question is where does this other £10 million come from? given that Camoron as stated he will not cut winter fuel allowance bus pass etc.

see graph here........benefits4.JPG

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 11:22 - 35193 of 81564

housing benefit is generally not that easy to come by, even though some assuredly work the system to get it, and i concur that it would only raise a minute amount - you can forget the headline figure

i think that a single-parent family (one child) gets a maximum of £700 pm, but no doubt someone can verify or correct that

sticky and i won't follow the red herring about landlords rentals!

Fred1new - 07 Jan 2014 11:25 - 35194 of 81564

GF.

I thought that is what you intended.

The devil is in the detail.

Manuel,

Suggest you play this short audio and consider your self inflicted blindness.

But, perhaps the obtusity of age may prevent you understanding it.

an even better idea for you ..... start answering questions instead of playing silly little games, pretending it's a variation on one of your cyber-chess antics

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 11:34 - 35196 of 81564

Well Cyners we are both landlords and you must be aware like myself IDS is eventually doing away with payment direct to Landlords, it hasnt come into play here yet but I gather in most of the country it as.

Result.......... landlords are stopping people renting their property if they are on benefits....BUT........ the reason IDS is stopping direct payment to landlords is because bent landlords are not advising LAs when tenants move out and continue to get their rents and its costing councils so much to trace former tenants to get figures for recovery overpayments or no results at all.

To be honest Ive had no probs with welfare tenants worst culprits for me have been university students.

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 11:51 - 35197 of 81564

i have a young couple on benefits, but as they pay me on DD and i know the parents well enough, i feel adequately protected

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 11:59 - 35198 of 81564

This removal of direct housing benefit to the landlord is madness, I also hear under Universal credit IDS will be paying claimants monthly instead of fortnightly.!!!!!!!!! (cost savings, economies of scale)

Bad enough when your in work making budget meet for the month just think whats going to happen with the poor unemployed.

Total madness.

Fred1new - 07 Jan 2014 12:04 - 35199 of 81564

GF,

University students!!!!!

AAAAAhhh I understand the more intelligent ones who can do runners.

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 12:08 - 35200 of 81564

the idea of owning low rental accommodation would fill me with dread
as i have mentioned before, the landlord gets 6 weeks rental deposit, which is peanuts bearing in mind the downtime and mess that many tenants make - and that assumes all their other bills are paid up

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 12:33 - 35201 of 81564

Fred....mad partys and neighbours complaining worst aspect.

Once had my whole central heating system plus boiler nicked. ........straight up.

Cyners 6 weeks rental deposit?. Most I ask for is a months bond.
