THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

This removal of direct housing benefit to the landlord is madness, I also hear under Universal credit IDS will be paying claimants monthly instead of fortnightly.!!!!!!!!! (cost savings, economies of scale)

Bad enough when your in work making budget meet for the month just think whats going to happen with the poor unemployed.

Total madness.

the idea of owning low rental accommodation would fill me with dread
as i have mentioned before, the landlord gets 6 weeks rental deposit, which is peanuts bearing in mind the downtime and mess that many tenants make - and that assumes all their other bills are paid up

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 12:33 - 35201 of 81564

Fred....mad partys and neighbours complaining worst aspect.

Once had my whole central heating system plus boiler nicked. ........straight up.

Cyners 6 weeks rental deposit?. Most I ask for is a months bond.

One advantage in paying the housing benefit to the person who is renting and not the landlord is that the landlord will not know that the person is on benefits.

DHL/BCC Trade Confidence Index Q4 12

The latest DHL / BCC Trade Confidence Index (TCI) points to an improvement in export activity for both manufacturing and services firms. The index number used to calculate the volume of trade documents administered by Chambers of Commerce across the UK now stands at 113.75; this represents a 1.4% increase on the previous quarter and the index is now at its third highest level since our records began.

Yes absolutely agree with the red flag flyers, absolute disgrace this honours system. Oh hang on, who were the knobheads who gave FRED GOODWIN a Knighthood?

"They should be looking at all areas of public spending," he said. "I am still slightly perplexed about why we contribute aid money to some of these countries that are on the path to prosperity."

The honours system has been an absolute joke for years, whichever party has been in power. Gongs are handed out like confetti, but not often to the people who genuinely deserve them.

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 13:14 - 35209 of 81564

i would still not like to see it dismantled, as there are many unknowns who deserve their recognition for all sorts of reasons, and this is a cost-free but very nice and public thank-you

Haystack - 07 Jan 2014 13:15 - 35210 of 81564

There are other benefits to be handed out by corrupt governments. Bernie Eccleston gave £1m to Labour and was able to continue with ciggie adverts on F1 cars.

cynic - 07 Jan 2014 13:17 - 35211 of 81564

what very negative viewpoints you chaps put out

Haystack - 07 Jan 2014 13:29 - 35212 of 81564

I like the idea of people in the community getting honours for charity work etc. CBE, MBE and OBE are good things. If you know someone deserving then you can propose them to the honours committee. It is a part of number 10. Then there is the Queen's own honours at her birthday time. Most of those are pretty sensible. My father got a Coronation Medal and later he got the Royal Victorian Order.

I don't like political honours unless the person has really done something out of the norm that is of benefit to society. Harold Wilson gave an award to his friend who manufactured his Gannex raincoat by making him a Lord.

Hays not if its written into the tenancy agreement which is the case with most agreements as most landlords get them from W H Smith pre printed.

Not only that but if it is made clear the landlord doesnt accept people on benefits if this rule is infringed the landlord can ask them to leave immediatly. The contract is broken.

goldfinger - 07 Jan 2014 13:51 - 35214 of 81564

One bloke where I used to work for in the civil service in the DHSS, never had a day off work in 42 years and was honoured as per Hays post above by the personnel team who put his name forward............

problem is the little weazel walked through picket lines time and time again and was despised by most people in the building.

Most of those walking through the picket line gave up their days pay and paid it either to a charity or to the Union benevolent fund.

When asked if he thought it responsible to take a 5% pay rise and his job saved once(by the Union) he replied he didnt believe in striking ohhh no, but we then asked him did he realise hed be on a salary 24% lower than fellow colleagues he just didnt want to know, he said its management who have paid me.

Suffice to say just a handfull of 200 people turned up for his leaving party.

Haystack - 07 Jan 2014 13:57 - 35216 of 81564

Exactly. It is for personal services to the monarch.
