Is blighty so run down, skint and lacking in expertise that it has to go to other sovereign countries to finance and build it's infrastructure?

you can't have it all ways ..... ultimately, there's only so much money in the kitty, so unless you think the country can or should borrow and borrow and borrow - some think that way - then this is arguably a good alternative, always assuming you want to spend money on major infrastructure projects

It will be interesting to watch you pal Wavey Davey flog out the UK infrastructure to the Chinese.

Will be nice to be a Chinese colony.

I wonder where tax will be paid.

He does not need to do any of that, he can instruct the BoE to issue more money to fund the nu power stations, after all, the BoE has form...think banks.

i did not pass any other than a non-political comment, which few others of you can ever do

if one accepts that HS2 is a good project that should proceed - that's something that has yet to entirely convince me - then it needs to be funded, and the question is then how that might be done

though my own initial and gut reaction is that i do not like the idea of the chinese being in control of building HS2, logic may then question why that would actually be such a bad idea ...... after all, it's hardly the same as the russians having physical control of the gas pipeline in/out of the ukraine

however, at the back of my mind also lurks my innate distrust and questioning of why it it would feel like the thin end of the wedge ..... no logic can be attached to that, but it nags away nevertheless

there are or may be of course simpler and better ways of funding this project
personally, i think borrowing, borrowing, borrowing is a lousy idea but in any case, i'ld be interested to hear some cool logic as to why the chinese should not be entertained in any circumstances - which would appear to be your view (and fossy's of course)

sorry to say, but i am just so bored with fossy's postings that i shall dwell on whether or not to squelch him .... that will also have the useful by-product of eliminating all the space his perpetual nonsenses fill up
his postings do not offend me at all, for i rarely read them, but they're just tiresomely repetitive, and more to the point, any question posed to him (per the last) is just ignored
all in all, he's just intolerably DULL

max - a very simple question of cost, but i agree that it really is a dreadful indictment of the state of heavy industry elsewhere, especially in europe, that it clearly cannot compete (for now)
