THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Good to see Cameron ducking and weaving and trying to avoid The Salmon at PMQ.

He trying to find somewhere else to hide as he leads his "troops" from the bunkers of No 10.

Heard Fauxpage is on the hunt for him.

He will hunt him here, and he will hunt him there.

The leader will just disappear.

Did you have pay them for that report?

There will be a bye election shortly.

The results may make interesting reading ^or V.

MaxK - 08 Jan 2014 23:45 - 35271 of 81564

cynic.

What is call me dave doing when he invites the Chinese/frogs uncle tom cobbly an all into the infrastructure "investment" game?

He does not need to do any of that, he can instruct the BoE to issue more money to fund the nu power stations, after all, the BoE has form...think banks.

He is, simply, doing his bosses bidding (and the other turds before him done the same)

Time to stop imo.

cynic - 09 Jan 2014 08:41 - 35272 of 81564

i did not pass any other than a non-political comment, which few others of you can ever do

if one accepts that HS2 is a good project that should proceed - that's something that has yet to entirely convince me - then it needs to be funded, and the question is then how that might be done

though my own initial and gut reaction is that i do not like the idea of the chinese being in control of building HS2, logic may then question why that would actually be such a bad idea ...... after all, it's hardly the same as the russians having physical control of the gas pipeline in/out of the ukraine

however, at the back of my mind also lurks my innate distrust and questioning of why it it would feel like the thin end of the wedge ..... no logic can be attached to that, but it nags away nevertheless

there are or may be of course simpler and better ways of funding this project
personally, i think borrowing, borrowing, borrowing is a lousy idea but in any case, i'ld be interested to hear some cool logic as to why the chinese should not be entertained in any circumstances - which would appear to be your view (and fossy's of course)

==============

any chance that you could now respond without wearing a political hat?

fossy certainly couldn't but then he will never answer even a simple direct question anyway, as is abundantly clear from his past record

MaxK - 09 Jan 2014 09:07 - 35273 of 81564

It has nothing to do with the Chinese, Frogs, whoever doing the work.

It is about control of national assets by entities whose interests may not align with our own.

cynic - 09 Jan 2014 09:11 - 35274 of 81564

fine .... so i read your gut reaction, but why do we feel that way?

MaxK - 09 Jan 2014 09:25 - 35275 of 81564

Basic conservative thinking I suppose.

cynic - 09 Jan 2014 09:26 - 35276 of 81564

i think i agree .... no real logic to the objection; it just sticks in the throat

MaxK - 09 Jan 2014 09:28 - 35277 of 81564

What sticks in the throat?

MaxK - 09 Jan 2014 09:35 - 35278 of 81564

It's a bit like this story. Why did it have to be made in china and shipped half way round the world?

Is Manuel selling out to Communism, or prepared to go cap and hand for another "tip"?

Phew, what next will the cons do to turn a "buck" over.

Must be another "ideological" switch, the tory membership card is changing colour from blue to bright red with the emblem of a tree without leaves.

Hays,

Was one of your antecedents a barber?

cynic - 09 Jan 2014 09:55 - 35281 of 81564

sorry to say, but i am just so bored with fossy's postings that i shall dwell on whether or not to squelch him .... that will also have the useful by-product of eliminating all the space his perpetual nonsenses fill up
his postings do not offend me at all, for i rarely read them, but they're just tiresomely repetitive, and more to the point, any question posed to him (per the last) is just ignored
all in all, he's just intolerably DULL

cynic - 09 Jan 2014 09:58 - 35282 of 81564

max - a very simple question of cost, but i agree that it really is a dreadful indictment of the state of heavy industry elsewhere, especially in europe, that it clearly cannot compete (for now)

Fred1new - 09 Jan 2014 10:11 - 35283 of 81564

Manuel's old age seems to be causing him confusion.

"for i rarely read them, but they're just tiresomely repetitive"

Shows how a real genius makes informed judgements and comments.

fossy - your cartoons are so obvious in their political targetting and slant that they do not need to be studied .... your written postings are always much the same and, if not by-passed entirely, can be quickly skated over

a much fairer criticism of you, is that you never ever answer a question

Fred1new - 09 Jan 2014 11:57 - 35285 of 81564

“Ah fred at last a socialist capitalist well done.”

======---===

Always leant to SD and thought that the “state” should be able to regulate and restrain “capitalism”, if, or when necessary.

The “state” “should” also be able to “stimulate” and “direct” the “economy” for the benefit of all within that state. (Egs. In a state of war whether economic, climatic, or military, etc.)

Just checked in Wicki and this basically sums up my positioning, although difficult to obtain, due to old reactionaries, still feasible and more attractive, to me, than rampant Capitalism.

Social democracy is a political ideology that officially has as its goal the establishment of democratic socialism through reformist and gradualist methods.[1] Alternatively, social democracy is defined as a policy regime involving a universal welfare state and collective bargaining schemes within the framework of a capitalist economy. It is often used in this manner to refer to the social models and economic policies prominent in Western and Northern Europe during the later half of the 20th century.[2][3]

Diane Abbott speaking on the Mark Duggan shooting.

"There's still a lot of concern about stop and search and the fact that black youth and Muslim youth get stopped and searched far more than white youth and it bears no relationship to the actual criminality.

No relationship to the Black crime rate ? in South London. Gun crime is a Black youth problem , the police had to set up a black on black gun crime department to deal with.

doodlebug4 - 09 Jan 2014 15:53 - 35287 of 81564

There are far too many people pussy footing around this problem for various reasons. Mark Duggan was a thug, heavily involved in gun culture. Tottenham MP on Sky News saying this country needs more black police officers - says it all really.
