THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Bad news for you. Guardian for tomorrow morning

Support for Labour shrinks as faith in recovery grows, ICM poll finds

Labour drops two points to 35% - three points ahead of Tories – as more people express optimism about their financial position

Support for Labour is sinking as faith in the UK's economic recovery builds, according to a new Guardian/ICM poll.

Ed Miliband's party drops two points on the month to stand at 35%, which is just three points ahead of David Cameron's Conservatives, who stand still on 32%. Labour's lead in the Guardian's respected 30-year polling series is thus squeezed to three percentage points, down from five last month and eight points in November.

The Liberal Democrats climb two, to reach 14%, and Ukip edges up one, to stand at 10%.

The scores of both the main government and opposition parties are now back to where they were last August, before Miliband's popular conference promise to freeze domestic fuel bills.

The economic news since has mostly been positive since, with falling inflation as well as unemployment, which could reduce the resonance of Labour's "cost of living crisis" pitch.

No way are the LIB/DEMS on 14% even you know that Hays.

These rouge polls occur every now and again.

cynic - 14 Jan 2014 06:50 - 35368 of 81564

a rouge poll?
i thought that was a euphemism for an old trollop in 17th century!

phew! strong article in today's FT is worth reading .... not exactly pro DC!

MaxK - 14 Jan 2014 08:01 - 35370 of 81564

Whats the gist?

cynic - 14 Jan 2014 08:10 - 35371 of 81564

this is the headline, but the article is worth reading in its own right .... if you're one of the rabid from either side, it won't make much difference

Cameron’s EU referendum gamble has failed

Eurosceptics keep winning concessions they said were ‘final’ before demanding more

35368 - the trouble with that ICM poll (in the grauniad) is that a mere 1005 people were polled, so all in all, just as meaningless as all other such polls ..... however, if that sort of result is produced consistently, then it certainly indicates that labour is losing its grip, not that it was ever very convincing

read the comment section....the brothers and sisters are in a perfect rage.

they think energy comes from windmills.

on balance, i am in favour of fracking - and yes i do have a little more vicarious knowledge in that field than most of the idiot rent-a-mob
from what i can see in dorset - i forget the precise site (wych farm?) - with proper care and attention, these sites do not intrude on the countryside, very much unlike those accursed turbines

Sums up Cameron and his Con Party.

Inflation has fallen to its 2% target.

Why?

cynic - 14 Jan 2014 12:24 - 35379 of 81564

lower fuel prices will have had a significant effect

Haystack - 14 Jan 2014 12:26 - 35380 of 81564

Because food inflation has slowed faster than expected.

Haystack - 14 Jan 2014 12:27 - 35381 of 81564

BBC
The UK inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) fell to 2% in December from 2.1% the month before, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

It is the first time since November 2009 that inflation has been at or below the 2% target set by the government.

The ONS said the change was caused by a slowdown in the increase of fruit and meat prices.
