When pointed at the extracted folder, under advanced installation so I could chose the location, there were only 2 folders where the OK button became highlighted. They were both under SMAXWDM folder and were "SE" & "W2K XP". I chose W2K XP and everything installed OK!

Unfortunatley I still have the original problem!

One of my HardDisk Drive's will not defrag or scandisk, is there any software that can fix this problem?

Try Chkdsk from a command prompt.

How much free space have you on the disk? What OS and file system are you using?

I've just connected a new whizzy Epson R800 printer but a message pops up saying I've connected a Hi-Speed bit of equipment to a non high-speed thingy. I've checked under Control Panel/system Properties/Device Manager and under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers I have only four items listed.

1. Generic USB hub
2. Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
3. USB Printing Support
4. USB Root Hub

Now, reading a couple of sites, I think what I need is a hi-speed USB host controller but I have no idea what type, what it looks like, how to fit it, what it costs or whether I can even download one.

Please could somebody lighten my darkness?

My guess would be that your computer has a USB1 port and your printer is USB2.

The USB2 is more modern and faster but so far as I know, it is not possible to upgrade except by adding an expansion card.

Many although not all USB2 devices will work with a USB1 port so you may just have to put up with the warning message.

I read the reviews below the picture and learn that 'It is required to install the USC card on motherboard with PCI specification revision 2.2 support'. All the reviewers seem agreed on that point, and one helpful chap even tells me to type the motherboard model number into Google to find which PCI version it is. Sadly he doesn't tell me what a 'motherboard' is!

I have just run a Belarc Advisor summary on my machine. It lists the System Model, Main Circuit Board, drives, printers etc and (I'm guessing) the Motherboard is listed under "Main Circuit Board". Under 'Board' there is an Intel reference 18 characters long and then there is a serial number about 12 characters long. The something called a BIOS.... but I don't think that reference is what I want.

Sorry to be a pain.....but which is the 'Motherboard', please?

The Motherboard and Main Circuit Board are the same. So long as your machine has a spare PCI slot then the card should be OK.

Just spoken to computer shop which did my most recent upgrade. Tecchie there asked why I wanted a USB2 upgrade. He listened to my story and said if I didn't want to print high-end graphics, just documents, it wasn't necessary and to save myself the hassle. Apparently I have a PCI Version of 2.1 though.

Yes Priscilla, it's just a question of speed of transfer of the data between the computer and the printer.

Is there a problem with stockwatch? I can get in there but stockwatch keeps asking for my username and password over and over

I had this problem last week - see the posts above SEADOG - in the end Adaware6 Personal removed the offedning items - Tried everything first including deletin all cookies and offline content and running Norton AV, Window Washer and Spysweeper. Fixed now

I had this too a few weeks ago - I thought I'd been banned!
A new PC cured the problem!

Bought a Medion Desktop from Aldi for 499, which is excellent and amazingly quiet. I also have a Time Platina which functions well but is extremely noisy by comparison.
Anyone any suggestions for quieting the Time machine??

I think you'll need to change the power supply unit - which includes the cooling fan.
