Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Merkel is quietly putting the Junky in his place. It is clearly in the UK interest to take its time and let emotions cool. Behind the doors preliminary talks should be held with Germany first. The rest don't matter, they will do what they are told otherwise no money.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said the European Union has "no need to be particularly nasty in any way" in the negotiations with Britain about its exit from the bloc.
She insisted that deterring other countries from leaving the EU should not be a priority in the talks.
And she added she was not in favour of pushing for a speedy withdrawal.
Britain narrowly voted to end its membership in a historic referendum last Thursday.
Mrs Merkel was speaking after several EU foreign ministers - including Germany's - had urged Britain to quickly implement its exit.
"It shouldn't take forever, that's right, but I would not fight for a short timeframe," she said.
She added that she was seeking an "objective, good" climate in the talks with Britain, which "must be conducted properly".

to look to the future with optimism and realise there is a new growing
world out there waiting to do business with the UK....

Now i saw Dan Hannan on newsnight and he was alluding to a deal for access to the single market that would include free movement of labour which sounds like son of free movement of people !
Surely any government knows that immigration was top of why we voted to leave and they would be out of office if this was the deal struck .

I think the trick with the free movement thingy is whilst there may be free movement, there wont be free money/flats/healthcare etc.

We would be able to pick and choose, and deport without the €uro's sticking their noses in.


That's only my thoughts, it could be as you say, in which case its back to where we started.

No free movement MaxK , you come here on say a green card, like if we work in the USA ,any free movement of the EU is like you say , back to where we started .

Merkel is more switched on and in touch with reality than I have ever given her credit for. She is genuinely gutted imo.

I wouldn't trust Merkel an inch all she's thinking about are BMW Audi VW and Porsche car sales over here , and the longer the leaving takes the more opportunity she has for maneuver , that's if she's still around .

The "Welsh" voted against something, that was "Cameron and cohorts" and also the lousy economy and rising unemployment they are facing.

Leaving the EU will not change that problem.
