Hi Vasey
I am surprised to hear Win XP didn't auto detect your modem and install a driver. It's got a pretty comprehensive driver database. Haystack's suggestion was a good one though, as it forces XP to have another look.
Let me know if the disc from BT doesn't work.

Hi all, Forky back again. Good to see all the old stagers posting again.
vasey
You are worrying me, I have just decided to put xp on my PC and you come up with problems, if I had hair it would fall out with worry.
Another red day on the markets but oddly very little change on my portfolio. Odd but reassuring.
Time to celebrate with a nice bowl of sherry trifle.

forky, don't worry. By the time Mr Euro and I have successfully installed XP, we should have the definitive guide for you to follow. But most important rule I've learned is to back up anything and everything. E-mail, all docs, address book, ANYTHING. 'Cos XP nukes anything that was on earth before it, as far as I can see. And, don't even think about it until you have located every programme disc you want on your machine after XP is installed. Apparently I need Word 97 - which never came on a CD, I think, but I'm being asked for a CD key. It doesn't acknowledge update CDs.
andycarr: the advantage of waiting for the BT disc is that, apparently it incorporates a lot of the updates I would need from MS anyway! Meanwhile, Pret coffee and internet cafe again.
morning GD.

Morning GD
Any cakes leftover ?
Vasey, Sorry to hear about your XP woes, shame your W/98 setup is scratched.
I went rambling in the wilds of the country yesterday. Came across a big bear who mumbled something about looking for the 'Royal Son'.
Did he mean Prince Charlie ? I asked. - No reply
As he ambled away I heard him say something about some people having a guaranteed rate and everybody else paying for it.
Whatever was he on about ?
OD
P.S. My I remind everyone that the park benches at the back of The Cafe now have broadband WiFi internet access ? ( no builders, some students and lots of tramps )

I never doubted that you did, just teasing. I believe there are a few ADVFN posters that use the easyinternet cafes in central london. There was a thread running about arranging a meet at one time. Have a walk around and see who is looking at at ADVFN or &AM. You can start your own trading group.

Forky's in town. All hyped up and ready to sleep! Happy XP to you vasey, thanks for the advice, all absorbed and archived away for when I take the leap into the unknown.
Bring on the sherry trifle, I need a nosebag before I collapse from starvation.

Happy Saturday everyone. Full English Breakfast sounds like the order of the day, hold the mushrooms, heavy on the bacon.
