THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Why is the gov borrowing more money?

Haystack - 29 Jan 2014 21:06 - 36050 of 81564

An interesting consequence of Scotland leaving the UK is they will lose 41 seats in parliament. That will make getting Labour elected much more difficult.

If the Conservatives get a clear majority next time they will put through the constituency boundary changes which was blocked by the Libs in this parliament. That will cost the Conservatives 14 seats, Labour 18 seats and the Libs a huge 18 seats.

MaxK - 29 Jan 2014 21:23 - 36051 of 81564

Who will gain these seats?

goldfinger - 29 Jan 2014 21:24 - 36052 of 81564

Why is the government borrowing more money Hays?.

goldfinger - 29 Jan 2014 21:54 - 36053 of 81564

The Euro may be a better choice for Scotland.

Osborne on spending

A Conservative government would match Labour's projected public spending totals for the next three years, shadow chancellor George Osborne has said.
He pledged two years of 2% increases.

Imagine if we were seeing pictures on TV of some foreign country that was drowning, instead of Somerset, our Government would have sent a few £billions in aid by now.

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 13:04 - 36058 of 81564

Spot on DB. What about all this money in foreign aid to pakistans education which is syphoned away corruptly.

Time we got our prioritys right.

Plus plenty of poorer people in these Somerset villages we should be saving.

Not all are rich farmers etc etc.

Will they be able to afford insurance in future!!!!!!!!

2517GEORGE - 30 Jan 2014 13:10 - 36059 of 81564

Will they be able to get insurance?

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 13:16 - 36060 of 81564

come on guys .... surely you're sophisticated enough to know that foreign aid isn't just a hand-out .... at the very least, it has uk long term interests attaching, either overtly or more subtly

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 13:53 - 36061 of 81564

You mean it used to have.

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 13:54 - 36062 of 81564

nothing has changed in that respect ..... in fact, i'm quite surprised that you aren't saying that 0.7% of GDP (i think that's the amount) isn't a bit stingy

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 14:19 - 36063 of 81564

No not when folk in this country need the dosh.

Im all for it in good times, ie fly the flag etc but not when people are using food banks in a developed economy.

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 14:21 - 36064 of 81564

on that basis, we'ld never ever give foreign aid, and at whatever level you want to take that, it can't possibly be right

doodlebug4 - 30 Jan 2014 14:37 - 36065 of 81564

Of course foreign aid isn't just a hand-out, it's usually a politically motivated waste of British taxpayers money.

And our muppet, Minister of the Environment, turns up in Somerset in a pair of black brogues when the county is up to it's bollocks in water.

Haystack - 30 Jan 2014 14:40 - 36066 of 81564

Foreign aid is often used to create a climate of potential influence in a region.

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 14:45 - 36067 of 81564

Yep and is often used to feather some dictators nest.
