THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

come on guys .... surely you're sophisticated enough to know that foreign aid isn't just a hand-out .... at the very least, it has uk long term interests attaching, either overtly or more subtly

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 13:53 - 36061 of 81564

You mean it used to have.

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 13:54 - 36062 of 81564

nothing has changed in that respect ..... in fact, i'm quite surprised that you aren't saying that 0.7% of GDP (i think that's the amount) isn't a bit stingy

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 14:19 - 36063 of 81564

No not when folk in this country need the dosh.

Im all for it in good times, ie fly the flag etc but not when people are using food banks in a developed economy.

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 14:21 - 36064 of 81564

on that basis, we'ld never ever give foreign aid, and at whatever level you want to take that, it can't possibly be right

doodlebug4 - 30 Jan 2014 14:37 - 36065 of 81564

Of course foreign aid isn't just a hand-out, it's usually a politically motivated waste of British taxpayers money.

And our muppet, Minister of the Environment, turns up in Somerset in a pair of black brogues when the county is up to it's bollocks in water.

Haystack - 30 Jan 2014 14:40 - 36066 of 81564

Foreign aid is often used to create a climate of potential influence in a region.

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 14:45 - 36067 of 81564

Yep and is often used to feather some dictators nest.

goldfinger - 30 Jan 2014 14:48 - 36068 of 81564

Hays latest poll.

Labour still have enough for overal majority BUT NOTE fall off in support for UKIP. Libs back to 10% average. Wheres TANKER??

electionista ‏@electionista 16h
UK - YouGov/Sun poll:

CON 35%
LAB 38%
LDEM 10%
UKIP 11%

cynic - 30 Jan 2014 14:57 - 36069 of 81564

sticky - i did NOT say that i necessarily supported every country to which "we" give aid .... with that in mind, i refuse point blank to give to any african based charities, and there are a few others too .... though the populace may deserve aid, as has already been said, much of this aid will end up in the dictator's pocket

Fred1new - 30 Jan 2014 16:08 - 36070 of 81564

See Captain Invincible Cameron is sending in the troops to sort out the floods and the weather.

After 4 weeks.

Organisation for you.

Hear he is taking his bailer with him.

Bet he is going to blame the previous Labour government.

I wonder how many will vote tory,
=========

See the polls still give the Labour party 70 seat lead, should lead to some reforms.

Fred1new - 30 Jan 2014 16:14 - 36071 of 81564

See the Cameron has found reverse gear again.

Who is going to be the next stalking horse.

Theresa??????

doodlebug4 - 30 Jan 2014 16:32 - 36072 of 81564

Captain Invinsible Cameron has actually sent 2 ( TWO ) troops to Somerset right now - according to Sky news!

Haystack - 30 Jan 2014 16:45 - 36073 of 81564

Just the usual nonsense. There are 100 military waiting for the routes to be checked. The 2 guys are the ones checking the routes. The 100 may be going in tomorrow.

Fred1new - 30 Jan 2014 16:49 - 36074 of 81564

Is the army still that big?

8-)

doodlebug4 - 30 Jan 2014 18:17 - 36076 of 81564

What routes Haystack ? You mean the routes available by boat presumably. I don't think it's nonsense actually, it makes me mad that these people have been living in these conditions for four weeks now and it's only when the press latch on to the story and the politicians think - OMG, this is bad publicity - that anything gets done. I'm a Tory voter at heart, but Cameron and his crew really need to get their act together and concentrate on the issues that are important to this country.

Haystack - 30 Jan 2014 18:24 - 36077 of 81564

Not so clever to go and live somewhere that is below sea level when we are told sea levels rising. It may be a losing battle and revert to salt marshes and swamps.

Fred1new - 30 Jan 2014 18:30 - 36078 of 81564

DB.

Where did you get your heart from?

Haze.

Tell that to the Dutch.

=

Your getting as daft as your dear leader.

Haystack - 30 Jan 2014 18:44 - 36079 of 81564

The Dutch have had hundreds of years to sort out their problems, although they will have new problems if water levels rise. Somerset may just have to sink. Actually there are probably Conservative seats there so we may to invest in flood defences to help the people :)
