How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Now 1.9 or so. Derek is being very sensible on the live feed which may be helping to move the odds. I'm in from 1.54 :-)

Eviction polls have them neck and neck.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 14:10 - 3640 of 10502

Safin wins first set vs Phillipoussis - Phillipoussis then has lengthy treatment for ankle injury

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 14:14 - 3641 of 10502

Now green on Grosjean @ 1.15

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 15:33 - 3642 of 10502

Win on Safin

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 16:01 - 3643 of 10502

Bjorkman putting up a fight against Davydenko. He's an old man though so should fade soon. :-) Hopefully.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:03 - 3644 of 10502

Kuznetsova a break down in the first set

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 16:04 - 3645 of 10502

Think I've just lost a shit load on that match. I presume Davydenko must be injured.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:06 - 3646 of 10502

John

you trading things you cant see again???

Davydenko retired hurt - ouch

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 16:08 - 3647 of 10502

You can say that again

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:08 - 3648 of 10502

damaged his wrist and forced to withdraw - looked in quite a bad way

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 16:09 - 3649 of 10502

Really pissed off. I'm off to the Lakes tomorrow so I can drown my sorrows. (Not literally of course)

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:14 - 3650 of 10502

sorry to hear john - hope you have a good time in the lakes - we'll have to hook up next week

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:22 - 3651 of 10502

Kuxnetzkova breaks back now 4-4 in first set

Harlosh - 22 Jun 2005 16:22 - 3652 of 10502

Hadn't really considered the prospect of an injury causing a losing position to be honest. It's a third option, like a draw in a rugby match. Unlikely but possible. It just doesn't appear on the screen.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 16:30 - 3653 of 10502

Kuznetzkova wins first set 6-4
Dementieva 5-1 down in first set
Hewitt 4-0 up in first set

john - i know its no comfort currently but maybe a stop loss in place say 20 ticks away would give some insurance against this

bakko - 22 Jun 2005 16:42 - 3654 of 10502

John, Sorry to hear of your loss too. If it makes you feel a little better (probably not), I got wasted yesterday when Henin crashed out. Backed her when she was 1 set down and never greened up despite chances to do so.

Steve and John, Let's arrange a night out again.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 18:11 - 3655 of 10502

Bak

whenever suits me - offer some dates up for john

Konetzova finally scraped through 6-4 in the third - though a great game to trade - in 3 sets their was 13 breaks of serve - she looks a prime candidate to lay to back back in future rounds

Scripophilist - 22 Jun 2005 18:18 - 3656 of 10502

"she looks a prime candidate to lay"

You smooth talker you.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2005 18:21 - 3657 of 10502
