What I think has happened is that ASDA have moved from proven technology trials to production trials with real live suppliers - a slightly different set of issues to monitor and possibly solve. So it's not just more trials being strung out, but a logical progression to full scale commitment.
If you had as much riding on it as ASDA (and Walmart) you'd want to test run not just the prototype, but see how mass production stands up statistically in terms of seal quailty, product protection//preservation, spoil rate etc.
I have no doubt they will encounter some problems and not much doubt that they will solve them, but all to ASDA's satisfaction before moving forward into the 12 month exclusive period. That's what purchasing power enables you to do - be extremely picky.
Only wish I could test drive my portfolio a bit, on an exclusive fixed price option basis, before having to pay for it!

I do occasionally need to qualify what my friend stockdog is saying. ASDA have signed a contract on satisfactory completion of their trials. However, orders are signed by ASDA suppliers, not ASDA. ASDA have computed the savings using GREENSEAL and are splitting the proceeds with their suppliers. What that means is that they actually pay the supplier LESS for the product because fo the lower cost of production, so effectively the savings are shared. It is the suppleirs decision. Clearly the suppliers are a community so ASDA persuaded SEO to conduct three further trials during April with the suppliers. By 22nd April, one was nearing completion. A post last week confirmed that trials had been completed with two suppliers and the retrofitting was being done for a third. The clock ticks on the existing agreement on the completion of this third trial or a firm order from one fo the first two. There is no real problem in this except that ASDA have, I suggest, outmanoevred SEO in defining the process even if just for two of three weeks. There is no problem unless a particular observer decides to try and distort the facts for his own end.
Another strong day overall with the price easing a tad. Glad some of you guys were able to take the opportunity to buy in at ridiculous prices. Some of us are already up to the gunnels, though far from the ship sinking it is about to take off!

Stanelco PLC ('Stanelco')
Update on Youngs Bluecrest Production Trials
Stanelco, the RF (radio frequency) applications group, is pleased to announce
that following its recently announced contract with ASDA, the first stage of
full-scale production trials with Youngs Bluecrest has now been completed. For a
two-week period fresh salmon has been sold using our GREENSEAL technology as the
sealing process. The results of these trials have been extremely encouraging.
Over the two-week period of the trials sales of the product packed and sold in
the selected ASDA stores have grown by 21%. Stanelco has been informed by ASDA
that this increase is as a direct result of a number of factors directly
attributable to our technology. Key amongst these is a more attractive looking
pack than the current product. In addition there were no reported leaking packs
and waste at store level was reduced.
Independent analysis carried out by Law Laboratories has also identified better
visual appearance and a fresher taste as the product reaches its end of shelf
life date. In addition microbiological analysis has also indicated that there is
strong evidence that an extra days' product life could be achieved.
Tony Ruane, Technical Manager at ASDA said:
'The benefits are now proving to be substantially beyond our original thinking
and as a result we will look to accelerate the introduction of this technology
to full scale commercial production.
'The second trial is commencing on Wednesday 11th May at Hitchens Foods, where
we will be trialling the process on layered salads and other items in the ASDA
own label range of Hitchens products.'
Ian Balchin, CEO of Stanelco commented:
'These trials are producing benefits well beyond our expectations and we look
forward to the imminent commercial discussions that are now being arranged.'

'imminent commercial discussions' as a certain ring to it don't you think? Not sure what that means but it's plural and it's positive so lets all sit back and enjoy what should be an interesting days trading. Good luck all SEO holders. OC
