No wonder parents all want their children to go to private schools these days.
I hadn't realized how far political correctness had permeated our society.
I live a sheltered life.
I have to admit to voting for us to go into Europe because I liked the idea of travelling and working without hindrance as at the time we had really stupid border controls, work permits, etc. I don't suppose that those who voted in favour realized what beaurocracy would end up doing to our lives.

This is one of the many cases where legislation or "Europe" is used as a scapegoat for money saving measures. Denitting costs money and to stop it you need to think of a reason. The Data Protection Act is a common scapegoat since most people don't understand it. It only covers records on computer and it certainly doesn't stop denitting a whole school. It is nothing to do with Europe anyway. As for the Human Rights Act, being sued is I suppose a theoretical risk but it would obviously be very unlikely for such a claim to succeed.

Kayak, I suspect you are right. The problem is more likely to be that the Headmisstress/master is worried about getting beaten up if they ask the guilty parents to de-nit their kids.

The GSK chart is a good indication of an impending news item. The news came out this morning about the $2.7bn tax claim but the chart reacted from monday.

What ho everyone. Mostly blue day on my portfolio today, odd that with the FTSE down. Still, ours not to reason why.............etc.

Kayak is right about the Data Protection Act -- it was a half-*rsed piece of legislation in the first place (1984), was largely ineffective and ignored until the last Information Commissioner(Elizabeth France) had it tightened up (1998) and the penalties increased to earn her place in the history books. Now it's being used like those other holy cows "health'n'safety" and "schools'n'hospitals" -- untouchable, beyond argument or reason. The current (amended) legislation is, however, based on yet another European Directive.

Can I have a large glass of Cabernet now, please?

If anyone is interested, I'm roasting a pig on a spit in the back garden. It's a bit of a job keeping the fire going because I'm using old fruit wood. What with the smell of the burning wood and the roasting meat I am having difficulty stopping myself from drooling. Bring your own bread, butter and toasting fork. The cafe will supply the carving knife etc. Mulled plonk will also be available as will some fizzy French stuff that goes "pop" when you get the cork out.

Will someone stop that dog from licking the pig!

Despite being told I would not get a hotel in Cheltenham for the racing I managed to find one. Do you know how far it is from town

I know the Whitehouse quite well. It's only about a mile from Staverton Airport where I work. If you are a rich bloke, and I suppose you must be if paying 275 smackers a night, you can get a helicopter flight into the racecourse. Saves all that traffic jam hastle but costs a bomb.

How far into town, walking distance? Couldnt see anything on the web site about helicoper rides to the course. Do you know how much or can you find out.

It's a bit far to walk. Buses run outside but not sure how often. I'll make some enquiries about the chopper rides. Might take a couple of days but I'll get back to you.
