How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Watch out for the thunderstorms tomorrow. One of my worst mare moments came when a storm cut the electricty to my house for a couple of hours. Then when it returned kept getting power surges and dips.

"Watch out for the thunderstorms tomorrow." :-(

Don't remind me! We have tickets for the 'Abba lookalikes' outdoor picnic concert at Althorp Hall for tomorrow night.

Shall we eat before we go? Where are the raincapes stored? etc, etc.

Fingers crossed and all that.

"Althorp Hall"

Doc I was invited there a few years ago for a high profile charity function, fantastic event. We all had dinner with Earl Spencer and drifted around the house for hours. A very memorable evening.

Voting very close for Roberto and Derek, according to Kaitho on Digital Spy, who appears to be an insider. Meanwhile Derek appears to have decided not to quit, but who knows.

Just backed 'No' for a rain free tournament at Wimbledon. Big storm over me at the moment heading for SW19.

It's been confirmed that 3 new housemates are entering the BB house tonight. My position in Any Other to win is looking good :-) Will close when their characters are known as initial impressions are bound to suggest that at least one has a chance of winning.

Scripophilist - 24 Jun 2005 13:01 - 3709 of 10502

Storm gone now but price on Betfair moved from 1.10 to 1.05 so I have decided to green up and wait for the next storm!

sealed - 24 Jun 2005 13:06 - 3710 of 10502

How do betfair handle 3 new entrants? Do they all remain in the 'any other' category for the remainder of BB6? If thats the case, your getting 'three bites of the cherry' for 1 price.
But there again it could be Mary returning with her relatives in which case your getting 3 spuds for 1 price :~)

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 13:13 - 3711 of 10502

The terms don't mention adding names and the market is not being part settled even for evictees (since they could return), so I'm sure we do get three bites of the cherry. In fact I have doubled up on this bet since unless they are all three no hopers the odds should drop to match the front runners, apart from Kemal, 8.0 or so.

If it does turn out to be the Addams family then I'm greening up immediately though :-)

kajman - 24 Jun 2005 13:36 - 3712 of 10502

Whilst I was watching, somebody just entered a bet for Sam to win at 1000. They must think she is coming back today :-)

But BB wouldn't put anyone in who's been in contact with the outside world in the last couple of weeks, would they??

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 13:44 - 3713 of 10502

It's been done before kajman (Jon Tickle) but in that case it was stated he would be unable to win. I think that Big Brother will stick to this rule in future (once evicted, can't win) so it really is wasted money. Also the Jon Tickle return was not particularly successful. He was sent back in to stir things up and just drank beer :-)

interesting post on betfair from kaitho (20 mar 2004). Bluff, double bluff?

Fundamentalist - 24 Jun 2005 14:36 - 3716 of 10502

According to one of the tabloids:

there will be 2 girls - a sexy irish model and a bust "loudmouth exhibitionist" with 44F boobs. the thirs newcomer is a lad who says he is a virgin and has no pals.

One of them is half-kuwaiti and has met jennifer lopez, while another is an engineer who is learning to fly. all three are single and one of the girls describes herself as a snobbish two faced bitch.

Sounds like theyve drageed up another three normal people lol

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 14:38 - 3717 of 10502

Yes, not sure I believe that sealed.
