A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Compared to the Java version this is BRILLIANT

Ian
This is excellent. It works very well on my Ipad too which is great. Well done. Just one thing. When I expand the company name it reverts when I reload the page. Try to keep the column expanded. Dave

How do I stop java dialog box appearing before I can cancel it to get the non-java screen to open stockwatch?

Too many mouse clicks to dismiss java and get into the actual stock watch screen. Can this be done with one click only, or can I completely dump java to access directly?

Pse advise.

I think this non java stock watch is far superior than java.
Reaction to the mouse is a lot faster for a start and it doesn't jump about like java tends to do.
All in all it leaves java standing.

Like that one can click on 'N' in stock watch & it goes straight to 'noes'

This is superior to java using Firefox on PC and now works on I phone also.Terrific.

Works well and is an improvement on Java

George - sorry for the slow response. Good idea, but unfortunately not going to be possible

zzaxx99 - 19 Mar 2014 13:12 - 379 of 734

Interestingly, I've just tried and the monitor has launched successfully a couple of times. Doesn't seem to be updating anything, and only shows the first (approx) half of the items that should be in the list, but progress.

Fantastic improvement....especially on the pad! Good effort

Redundant and happy - 19 Mar 2014 15:21 - 381 of 734

Good .... but ... Think you need to make up your mind now as it is becoming annoying jumping between one and the other with shortcut/links only working on new version

fortune25 - 20 Mar 2014 13:29 - 382 of 734

Changed to Non Java version but seems to be reverting back to old method
after viewing trades and level 2
I am using Windows 8 I have logged out and re-entered.

Hi jimmy,

Ian is away. I answered your comments on the other thread you posted in. This thread is about stockwatch only so I'll remove the comments from here.

Regards
George

I think it is about stockwatch and every other page George ,it's killed my internet and i can not now use Moneyam , who thought it was a good idea to have Barry Scott screaming at you every time you change a page.
I have never made a complaint to MAM before until today ,this is quite ridiculous you have a new video on every page.

dreamcatcher - 21 Mar 2014 17:42 - 385 of 734

Do not like these videos.

catta - 23 Mar 2014 21:57 - 386 of 734

Awful videos. They just ruin this site

Sorry

NickCWA - 24 Mar 2014 08:26 - 387 of 734

Pathetic, Idiot videos, stupid pop-ups, cannot clear my card details and I am paying for it. I can't trust this company with my card details so I am getting a new card. Annoying.

I will not be renewing my subscription. Did not even get a reply when I asked a question about the precision of share prices in general.

On top of that I cannot view live Share prices as it only works occasionally, could it be that their servers are overwhelmed?

NickCWA - 24 Mar 2014 08:32 - 388 of 734

Why am I paying to be bombarded with pop-up ads and idiot streaming videos?

Hiram Abif - 24 Mar 2014 08:49 - 389 of 734

MoneyAM - think about this......

The question is will Moneyam loose more customers and their long standing 'good will' to stay with the website / service, than they would gain from pathetic annoying auto-video advertising clips. Looks like punters are voting with their feet already.

C'mon MoneyAM; sort this out and dump this irritating pop-up. I do not need to see a repeat after repeat during every click I make on the site.

I'm sure MoneyAM can see sense here.

Yours in anticipation. HAb

I'll add my voice to the criticism of the videos and audio. It is very irritating and distracting. Please get rid of them.
