Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

German chancellor Angela Merkel should use her visit to Britain to admit that the European Union was "built on German guilt" after World War Two, according to one of Britain's leading entrepreneurs.
Luke Johnson, who used to run Pizza Express, said it'd be "interesting" if Merkel "admitted on behalf of the Germans that the EU as a political construct was built on German guilt".
The former Channel 4 chairman's comments provoked gasps from the audience at a debate on Britain's place in the European Union, held at Bloomberg's London headquarters.

She is addressing Parliament at the moment. Later, she will have tea with the Queen. I am sure she will ask Philip not to mention the war.

Aldwick,
Think there has been a bit of editing.
Tower bridge with a bloke wearing trainers and walkie scorchie in the background.
Hyde Park with another high riser in background.
Probably because the original plates were faded in those areas.

The reality is that all the hard work towards power sharing in NI was done by Major.

2517,
If you read back what I wrote regarding Blair, you will see that I had or have little regard for him.
Didn't like him before he was elected as prime-minister, or subsequently.
(But remember Cameron and the present torrid party even failed to be elected as a government, but hold power on the agreement of the Lib/dems..)
I think liar, when it is used in reference to Blair, or Cameron is appropriate.
However, as far as the “Irish agreement” is concerned, like many I thank him for doing what was necessary to get a peace deal and save the lives of the Irish and British troops and as well as civilians.
That was for the betterment of North Ireland and the UK as a whole.
Jaw jaw is better than war! war!
Are there still problems to solve in Northern Ireland? Yes.
If you haven’t read the book below, take a chance and read it.
It presents the mindset of many on both sides of the Irish conflicts and the consequences.
I found it chilling.
Have a read of a “Star Called Henry” by Roddy Doyle

What interests me is how many who wish to refuse independence to Scotland, but at the same time wish for themselves escape from the EU!
Strange but ?????
Sometimes, the ability to demonstrate schizophrenic thinking surprises me.

Haze,
I agree that Major had the courage to set in to motion a pathway for "peace".
He was an underestimated PM, but dealt a lousy hand to play by some of his own party.

Fred - isn't the Scotland issue completely different from the EU debate? Scots do speak English after all and share the same strip of land as England.

Db.
Half the EU population speak better English than many of the English in the UK. 8-)
======
To be honest I know next to nothing of the complexities of "Scottish devolution problems".
Have a certain respect for "Nations" governing themselves, but see fragmentation and dissociation from the major group has its own problems.
Acceptance, rather than denial that there are problems and negotiations to resolve the seeming "abuses" ,when possible, is a better approach, rather picking up one's ball and walking out of the pig factory. (Vesicles. 8-) )
(I had a row with my father when I was in my teens and threatened to "walk out".
He told me that "there always an open door you want to come back, but the decision was mine to make". It made me think.)
I don't think I would stop the Scots, or any "national" group leaving from the "parent" body, if the "majority" wished to do so.
But I would try to have "open borders".
That applies to the Crimea and Ukraine and former Yugoslavia.
It is the b. blustering, posing and threatening of what may be a future neighbour" which irritates me.
