THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

2517,

If you read back what I wrote regarding Blair, you will see that I had or have little regard for him.

Didn't like him before he was elected as prime-minister, or subsequently.

(But remember Cameron and the present torrid party even failed to be elected as a government, but hold power on the agreement of the Lib/dems..)

I think liar, when it is used in reference to Blair, or Cameron is appropriate.

However, as far as the “Irish agreement” is concerned, like many I thank him for doing what was necessary to get a peace deal and save the lives of the Irish and British troops and as well as civilians.

That was for the betterment of North Ireland and the UK as a whole.

Jaw jaw is better than war! war!

Are there still problems to solve in Northern Ireland? Yes.

If you haven’t read the book below, take a chance and read it.

It presents the mindset of many on both sides of the Irish conflicts and the consequences.

I found it chilling.

Have a read of a “Star Called Henry” by Roddy Doyle

What interests me is how many who wish to refuse independence to Scotland, but at the same time wish for themselves escape from the EU!

Strange but ?????

Sometimes, the ability to demonstrate schizophrenic thinking surprises me.

Haze,

I agree that Major had the courage to set in to motion a pathway for "peace".

He was an underestimated PM, but dealt a lousy hand to play by some of his own party.

doodlebug4 - 27 Feb 2014 15:26 - 37170 of 81564

Fred - isn't the Scotland issue completely different from the EU debate? Scots do speak English after all and share the same strip of land as England.

Db.

Half the EU population speak better English than many of the English in the UK. 8-)

======

To be honest I know next to nothing of the complexities of "Scottish devolution problems".

Have a certain respect for "Nations" governing themselves, but see fragmentation and dissociation from the major group has its own problems.

Acceptance, rather than denial that there are problems and negotiations to resolve the seeming "abuses" ,when possible, is a better approach, rather picking up one's ball and walking out of the pig factory. (Vesicles. 8-) )

(I had a row with my father when I was in my teens and threatened to "walk out".

He told me that "there always an open door you want to come back, but the decision was mine to make". It made me think.)

I don't think I would stop the Scots, or any "national" group leaving from the "parent" body, if the "majority" wished to do so.

But I would try to have "open borders".

That applies to the Crimea and Ukraine and former Yugoslavia.

It is the b. blustering, posing and threatening of what may be a future neighbour" which irritates me.

Max,

P 37174.

It is a poor man who has never wished to be led astray!

Scots do speak English after all and share the same strip of land as England.

Fred scratches his head and says to himself " Dammit , another trick question "

MaxK - 27 Feb 2014 16:06 - 37176 of 81564

It's always the quiet ones you have to be carefull of Fred.

WE WIN................ lost the spare bedroom tax vote yesterday but a victorious win today.

‘WoW’ debate on sickness and disability benefits live blog

Today’s the day: The WoW Petition is being debated in Parliament today, having won the support from MPs necessary to trigger a debate.

That concludes today’s live blog. Thanks to everybody who visited and pressed ‘F5′ to keep up with events.

2.38pm The motion for the government to commission a cumulative impact assessment has been passed – resoundingly – after the debate. Admittedly very few people attended but the result was what the 104,000 people who signed the ‘WoW’ petition wanted.

However, there now arises the question of what the government will do. As was noted in the debate, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition has been defeated three times in succession over social security benefits – and has done absolutely nothing about the motions that have been passed.

Those who believed Labour would abstain have been proved wrong by today’s result; we must now judge the government by its actions in response.

The public wants action on this matter, and it has been supported by a House of Commons vote.

This is not just a test of Parliamentary democracy but also one of the e-petition system by which the debate was secured in the first place. Does David Cameron intend to ignore the will of the people that has been revealed by this new method which he is said to support?

Haystack - 27 Feb 2014 19:52 - 37178 of 81564

Hopefully, they will ignore it. The general public like the benefit changes and the bedroom benefit reduction system. The fact that there are 104,000 loonies out there comes as no surprise to me.

Haystack - 27 Feb 2014 20:11 - 37179 of 81564

I am sure you could get 104,000 people to sign any daft petition, especially when it is publicised by the loony left.

MaxK - 27 Feb 2014 21:29 - 37180 of 81564

Whats wrong with a debate?

After all, that's what we pay the tossers for?

Haystack - 27 Feb 2014 22:35 - 37181 of 81564

More important things to debate.

Fred1new - 27 Feb 2014 22:39 - 37182 of 81564

Max,

You shouldn't call Haze a tosser.

Even if he is one!

Be careful though, if you lean any further to the Right, you may end up like him.

8-)

GF.

Wondered where you were.

But can I correct you.

The coalition is no longer a con party/Lib/Dem coalition.

It is now Labour/ Old Lib/Lab coalition against the torrid party, disconnected Right winged reactionaries with a smattering of Nick Clegg, Douglas Alexander and a few hanging others hanging onto their wage packets.

======

How much did the parading of Angela Merkel, cost the hard working tax payers of the country.

The ones who can't "welfare" payments when they are dying, even if under the present regime are entitled to it.

It was done as political gimmick in an attempt to bolster Cameron's flagging party support and insults the intelligence of the electors. (This does not exclude Manuel or Haze.)

I think Haze, sometime or other, arrived on this planet on the same space ship as John Redwood, or Dr Spock.

I think Hays is just a drunk sad old man.

Well I see Bugsy Cameron touched the Merkel Sphinx's hand....I thought for a moment : she was going to slap him....nobody might have noticed but she muttered something !...I'll say one thing the Tories certainly know how to lose votes !...

Anyone out there use this site?

http://www.fixmystreet.com/

It's quite useful for reporting the odd flooded street, fly tipping, pothole or such like.

Anyhow, someone somewhere who fixes these things for the benefit of the local society might go there from time to time - to see if anything might need doing in their local area and then send someone to fix said problem.

I can just imagine me stopping my car, getting out, duly armed with camera at the ready so as to photo my giant pothole find - and then......"Bang! You're dead!"

But there are problems other than potholes. Here's a selection from my general area:

http://www.fixmystreet.com/reports/Northampton

Here's one from a lady, whose decorator 'fly tipped' his uneaten lunch in her wheelie bin, thereby letting it sit there to rot and smell and along with some unused bits of coving: http://www.fixmystreet.com/report/392471

Wouldn't it be nice if he got himself slapped with a little penalty notice?
