How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Do traders have nine lives as well as cats?

Scripophilist - 24 Jun 2005 16:17 - 3727 of 10502

Play suspended at Wimbledon.

I'm singing in the rain. Just hope it doesn't reach here for our mixed greensomes @ 17.00.

Shame they didn't have a market for rain at Glastonbury as well.

Lovely mover in the 17:00 just bagged a huge trade. Fantastic stuff.

Keeping an eye on the Roddick match traded at 1.01 and now back to two sets all.

bakko - 24 Jun 2005 17:20 - 3731 of 10502

Play has resumed at Wimbledon

Scrip, Thanks for pointing out the no rain bet for Wim. Grabbed a bite at 1.08.
Thanks also for sorting out other problem.

I can't believe that there are people on Betfair who were stupid enough to offer money even at 1.08 for no rain at Wim. It was a foregone conclusion that we were going to get rain throughout the country today. It was just a matter of time before it fell at Wim. As far as I'm concerned I'm more than happy to take free money of such idiots!

"Thanks for pointing out the no rain bet for Wim. Grabbed a bite at 1.08."

No prob but it really was a no brainer. I filled up with a reasonable amount but nothing huge and still people wanted to lay it so thought I just as well let others know.

Also for me with the rain moving over my house towards Wimbledon I couldn't believe people were still offering up money. Only a matter of time before Wimbledon was hit.

Still a no trading day for me - finally got the new pc up and running, from tomorrow will be able to have three screens at once, just got to sort out the router and broadband and install some software.

Kernow - if its mixed gruesomes surely you'd prefer it to rain - and heavily lol

see "any other" to win bb is now trading at 9.0/9.2

nice green position awaiting kayak!

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 20:34 - 3735 of 10502

Yes Fundy although I looked earlier and they had bounced to 13 or so! It turned out that Davina had made some comment on BBLB about them not being proper housemates, which caused a flood of speculation on Digital Spy as to whether they might be plants or housemates from foreign BBs and therefore not able to win. Ah the dangers of reality shows. Price has now come down again so I think it was all a big red herring.

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 20:35 - 3736 of 10502

Also pictures of the three housemates were posted briefly on Digital Spy after they were found on the Channel 4 site. Now gone again.

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 21:34 - 3737 of 10502

Damn that woman, every time she opens her mouth the odds rocket :-(

I think that what Davina means is that three people are going into the house and we will be able to choose one or two to be housemates. We'll see!

Fundamentalist - 24 Jun 2005 23:11 - 3738 of 10502

Kayak

2 out of the 3 will go into the house proper though as far as potential winner surely only the irish blonde has a chance

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 23:30 - 3739 of 10502

These people are like a breath of fresh air. They immediately started acting as a team. After four weeks the other lot are still 9 individuals acting against each other.

To be honest I could see any of them develop into winners as time goes on. The Irish model looks like she has a strong character underneath and she is very into her looks so she may actually get voted out promptly.

Dil - 24 Jun 2005 23:32 - 3740 of 10502

Not by me she won't :-)

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 23:34 - 3741 of 10502

Nor me :-)

Kayak - 24 Jun 2005 23:39 - 3742 of 10502

Hands up anyone who's already been told by their wife to 'stop staring at that woman' :-)

kernow - 25 Jun 2005 13:18 - 3743 of 10502

Fundy - :-) It did rain but we played (badly) anyway.
