How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

The way Nalbandian is demolishing Gasquet makes you realise just how well Murray played!!

Afternoon All,

Been frantically trading myself out of a crappy position over the last hour or so, hence the silence. Got to a small profitable position as long as Nalbandian wins so come on Bandy!

Backed Gasquet at the beginning - big mistake.

bakko - 27 Jun 2005 14:27 - 3776 of 10502

Match to Bandy!

What a relief!!

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 14:31 - 3777 of 10502

Bak

why did you back gasquet - because murray should have beaten nalbandian?? if that game hadnt happened i would have expected it to be approx 2.0 each player hence gasquet looked very short to me (nalbandian has a very good record at wimbledon)

bakko - 27 Jun 2005 15:00 - 3778 of 10502

Steve,

I think I got carried away with the odds having found out that Gas't were originally way out but shortened quite quickly.

In a nutshell - a balls up. But managed to rescue a potentially very dire situation.

I've laid Williams, Downside very limited probably little chance of a bounce but looking for one.

her opponent has just called for the trainer to come and see what the injury is

Scrip

Got the spike I was looking for. Brilliant. Just sent an order in with a trailing stop and walked away. I'm really getting to like Tennis.

I fancy some money on Tursunov now as well.

:)

Been building up a reasonable profit on both davenport and clisjers. So pretty green on both. Will switch betfair off to prevent the temptation to trade anymore on this match. I don't want to undo the good work already done.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 17:46 - 3786 of 10502

now 1 set all bak - turn the machine back on lol

bakko - 27 Jun 2005 17:50 - 3787 of 10502

Steve,
Very tempted to but not this time. I've worked quite hard to get to this position. Done it too many times before and regretted it.

compoundup - 27 Jun 2005 17:51 - 3788 of 10502

Good afternoon all. Getting the hang of this now. Still playing with 2 bets. Lots of opportunities on Davenport - Clijsters match as the odds move so far so fast. Nice and green and return on capital employed would be the envy of any businessman :-)

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 17:55 - 3789 of 10502

Grosjean game is 1 set all and the first three games in the third set have all gone against serve leading to some large price swings - hes currently a break down

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2005 17:59 - 3790 of 10502

Tennis is great. The trouble is surely it can't be this easy. I've been trying to close out my Tennis model but it just seems much less complicated than that. There seems to be opportunities in every match.

Had a decent day on the horses as well.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 18:04 - 3791 of 10502

make that the first 4 games - nicely green now :-)

scrip - likewise on the horses -thought it was going to be a poor day having looked at the cards this am but done ok - evening cards look good to trade too

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 19:21 - 3792 of 10502

Cant believe grosjean was available at 2.0 when 5-0 down in 4th set :-)

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2005 19:39 - 3793 of 10502

I've been grabbing some Tennis charts. I'll post them up at some point.
