How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Grosjean game is 1 set all and the first three games in the third set have all gone against serve leading to some large price swings - hes currently a break down

Tennis is great. The trouble is surely it can't be this easy. I've been trying to close out my Tennis model but it just seems much less complicated than that. There seems to be opportunities in every match.

Had a decent day on the horses as well.

make that the first 4 games - nicely green now :-)

scrip - likewise on the horses -thought it was going to be a poor day having looked at the cards this am but done ok - evening cards look good to trade too

Cant believe grosjean was available at 2.0 when 5-0 down in 4th set :-)

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2005 19:39 - 3793 of 10502

I've been grabbing some Tennis charts. I'll post them up at some point.

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2005 20:29 - 3796 of 10502

However, I'm not tempted to lay him! ;-)

Kayak , has it been announced that Maxwell and Saskia are up for eviction officially or is it another leak ?

Cheers

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 21:24 - 3798 of 10502

Dil

just checked on the ch4 website - they havent announced the nominations on there yet but both Maxwell and Anthonys nominations dont count this week hence i guess why the prices of maxwell and saskia are so short - that and the weekly leaks of course

Dil - 27 Jun 2005 21:31 - 3799 of 10502

Going purely on the odds it looks a racing cert , I just backed them both , only small though.

Tomorrows order of play for the womens quarter finals on the show courts is below - rest day for the mens singles, though weather forecats isnt great:

Centre Court (1pm start)
A MAURESMO (1.34) Fr 3 v A MYSKINA (3.85) Rus 9 WS
M PIERCE (2.96) Fr 12 v V WILLIAMS (1.47) US 14 WS

Court One (1pm start)
N PETROVA (6.6) Rus 8 v M SHARAPOVA (1.17) Rus 2 WS
L DAVENPORT (1.34) US 1 v S KUZNETZOVA (3.85) Rus 5 WS

the two games on court 1 look likely to go the way of the favourites imo, shall be looking to trade the matches on centre court unless i get distracted by the England v Australia cricket which starts at 2.30pm.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2005 23:51 - 3801 of 10502

Early prices for the mens quarters which will be on Thursday (weather permitting):

Federer (1.09) vs Gonzalez (10.5)
Roddick (1.19) vs Grosjean (6.0)
Hewitt (1.41) vs Lopez (3.4)
Nalbandian (1.74) vs Johanson (2.28)

Initial thoughts are johanson looks a big price and roddick may be a little too short

Overall winner market prices are now as follows

Federer 1.54
Roddick 5.6
Hewitt 14
Nalbandian 30
Lopez 34
Johanson 50
Grosjean 60
Gonzalez 95

Kayak - 28 Jun 2005 01:10 - 3802 of 10502

Dil, it's pretty much a certainty, as Fundy says two of the Maxskia team are not able to vote, the other team would have voted for them following the cider debacle, and Makosi is immune from her task. Saskia will go.

Kayak - 28 Jun 2005 02:06 - 3803 of 10502

Hmmmm, or possibly Derek and Saskia nominated.

kajman - 28 Jun 2005 09:17 - 3804 of 10502

Hope you're right about Derek, Kayak.

I am trying to get out of a bet for Derek to go. Started backing him at 15s, now I'm averaged at 36, so nearly there.

I'm not sure I like this market as it has too many surprises. Every week I seem to have to work very hard to get out of a bad red situation.

kajman - 28 Jun 2005 09:18 - 3805 of 10502

Scrip did you get an internal email from me?

Kayak - 28 Jun 2005 09:25 - 3806 of 10502

Derek has found a lot of support and probably will come in some more. The house is moving to a more 'sensible' phase in its development as it quietens down.

Dil - 28 Jun 2005 09:49 - 3807 of 10502

What are the current odds for Saskia , Maxwell and Derek ?

Cheers

sealed - 28 Jun 2005 10:06 - 3808 of 10502

saskia 1.72-1.75
maxwell 3.45-3.6
derek 32-38
