How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Looks like it may just be Maxwell and Science from the odds this afternoon!

bakko - 05 Jul 2005 16:48 - 3900 of 10502

Kayak, Totally agree with you.

Science is now at 1.54/1.57.
Maxwell's odds came in quite dramatically in a very short time.

My BB fan here tell's me that if it's between Science and Maxwell then Sc is a definite goner

Kayak - 05 Jul 2005 17:48 - 3901 of 10502

... and Maxwell and Science it is. Science nailed on to go unless Maxwell does something an order of dimension more gross than normal.

TheTwenty Tweny game between surrey and essex is going to start in ten minutes as a FIVE OVERS A SIDE GAME in the rain - anyone mad enough to try and trade it???

On the same game "no completed match" has traded at 1.01 lol

Scripophilist - 05 Jul 2005 22:02 - 3903 of 10502

Did it end in a tie?

Fundamentalist - 05 Jul 2005 22:09 - 3904 of 10502

Scrip

Fundamentalist - 05 Jul 2005 22:24 - 3905 of 10502

laid essex at 1.08 :-)

no money in the tie market to hedge

Fundamentalist - 05 Jul 2005 22:33 - 3906 of 10502

1 run away from being a tie thankfully - one of the most profitable games of cricket for me ever lol and it didnt even last an hour

Best market to trade today has to be the 2012 Olympic hosts market. Decision will be made at 12:46. Lots of movement is expected on the market as the whiter than white IOC lets nothing leak ;-)

My Betfair connection is naff again today, screen takes about 10 minutes to load. No problem with Bet Angel so it appears to be the main Betfair page again. Can't figure out what the problem is.

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 10:41 - 3909 of 10502

Seems to be better now. Price on London is coming in now trading just over 3's.

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 11:06 - 3910 of 10502

And back out again!

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 11:07 - 3911 of 10502

I think it would be fantasic to see the Olympics here but I don't think the UK is a popular enough country to do it. Seb Coe has done a fantastic job at trying though.

bakko - 06 Jul 2005 11:08 - 3912 of 10502

I see that madrid has shortened quite considerably from 60s down to 19s

Piptrader - 06 Jul 2005 11:08 - 3913 of 10502

Thanks for the pointer, Scrip. Easy green on Paris or London winning, but a bit b*gg*r*d if both lose :-)

Edit: I don't want to know that, Bak:-)

Kayak - 06 Jul 2005 11:14 - 3914 of 10502

Punted on Spain at 19 just for fun but I think it just means they're having trouble deciding between Paris and London.

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 11:23 - 3915 of 10502

TV coverage on BBC but its incredible labourious!!

In theory the prices should come in anyhow as competing nations are eliminated. But most of the market is already on the top three.

bakko - 06 Jul 2005 11:39 - 3916 of 10502

It's all down to Paris or London

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 11:41 - 3917 of 10502

Certainly is, I think the issue at hand is that Paris went for it to get the 2004 and 2008 games so I think most IOC members feel Paris deserve it. Great market to trade.
