A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Everytime you post, refresh. Pathetic.

ExecLine - 24 Mar 2014 11:38 - 394 of 734

Crappy videos, guys! And on every bloody page too!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George, you say:

This thread is about stockwatch only so I'll remove the comments from here.

Regards
George

PS. Don't you like my post? Why should we care?
PPS. Wrong thread? Why should we care?

George, Then spend some time deleting it/moving it. Just like we have to spend some time pratting about with your stupid video advert's controls. AND we have to do it on every bloody page too. That - or remember we've turned the sound off/down when we go somewhere else on the Interweb.

Crappy bloody video crap.

ExecLine - 24 Mar 2014 11:41 - 395 of 734

George,

When you MAM guys don't give shit about the video adverts you are shoving down our throats then why should we bother one little bit about giving you some bloody feedback on here or whether or not it's the correct page we've used?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 Mar 2014 11:54 - 396 of 734

Exec,

Rest assured we do care, I don't have control of the adverts on the site, but feedback from you guys has been highlighted to our advertising department. The advert campaign is due to cease on 9th April. We will not be repeating this campaign.

Ian

The videos are a real nuisance

Fred1new - 24 Mar 2014 12:08 - 398 of 734

If you are using Chrome.

The ADblock video blocker does work. (follow simple instructions)

It is simple to down load from within Customise and down load within the Chrome package!

You can switch the blocker on and off.

Hiram Abif - 24 Mar 2014 12:22 - 399 of 734

IanT(MoneyAM),

Well do for fronting up and letting us know that these irritating adverts will not be repeated as a advertising policy. The stockwatch page should be kept 'advert free'; punters do not read the ads anyway, but get irritated when they 'squeeze' the available page.

You have now just scored 'brownie points' from the punters for such a simply response. I would like to recommend you for the position of MoneyAM Man/Director.

Well done for the response.

Too late, I cancelled my account. Too much time wasted (this is just a final rant!)

Why should I spend time (in a paid for service) switching moronic video ads on and off?

Using Google and First Direct, Anyone else know anywhere that does not treat their paying clients like this? That is as suckers?

Marketing: thoughtless, short term, money grabbers, etc.

Final rant over....

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 Mar 2014 12:32 - 401 of 734

Nick,

Your feedback is duly noted and fully understood. We have reacted to the fact that this has generated complaints by taking the decision not to run another such campaign after this one ends on 9th April.

Comments noted, George/Ian

:-)

The video thingy has now gone and I am now looking at a gif advertising First Shares.com

:-) :-)

George (ex MoneyAM) - 24 Mar 2014 14:06 - 403 of 734

ExecLine and all: I'm sorry. I 100% agree with all of you. The advert is terrible. It's noisy, distracting and a waste of bandwidth. We have passed on all of the users' and our own opinions of this to management and the sales staff involved. This is the most we can do. Hopefully the strong objections will be noted in future. As technical and support staff we are involved in production and support of the site, but commercial aspects are out of our hands. In the meantime, flash block is available in most browsers to block flash unless you manually load it.

HARRYCAT - 24 Mar 2014 14:42 - 404 of 734

If it just played once it wouldn't be quite so bad, imo. It's the fact that it just carries on & on!

midknight - 24 Mar 2014 15:49 - 405 of 734

Incidentally, a side-effect of this nonsense is that
if one is not on unlimited broadband, one's usage
increases by leaps and bounds because of this.

thebundles - 24 Mar 2014 16:44 - 406 of 734

I think the non-Java Stockwatch is great. Congratulations.

greekman - 24 Mar 2014 17:05 - 407 of 734

I appreciate that this is not supposed to be posted on here, but as it is a request to some posters, I think that it is appropriate.

I belong to 3 similar sites and MoneyAm are by far the best at responding to posts, with some that never answer, so come on guys give the workers at the coal face a break.

Whilst I also think the adds are ridiculous, there are ways of getting results by being direct and blunt but still being none aggressive.

jimmy b - 24 Mar 2014 17:11 - 408 of 734

Whoever in the sales team thought an ad screaming at you on every page was a good idea is bonkers ........

but i agree greekman i've been on here a long time Moneyam is tops as a site and yes you can always get a reply

NickCWA - 25 Mar 2014 08:10 - 409 of 734

Hi Greekman. Bad service is bad service. No use comparing with how bad other sites are. MAM have at least acknowledged the problem. I think people have been patient in view of the recent changes. Pay for a service and expect a service.

When it works the PHP is good but it rarely works for me on live share dealing stream. Chrome or IE or Firefox.
So I have downgraded, if it works I might upgrade later.

I agree MAM staff are very helpful, except maybe the marketing people. Bet they did not listen to the techies!

midknight - 25 Mar 2014 10:23 - 410 of 734

Greek, what you say is true. George and Ian cannot be blamed
whatsoever for the lapses and lack of vision among MAM's marketing honchos.
If anything, both George and Ian deserve a payrise or a meaningful bonus, methinks!
Some of the money coming in from these idiotic ads could be given to them.

jimmy b - 25 Mar 2014 10:28 - 411 of 734

midknight if you have limited broadband usage it will eat it up but you can turn them off .

midknight - 25 Mar 2014 11:39 - 412 of 734

jimmy, can you tell me how to do that. step by step, please, as
I am not a techie-type. At the moment MAM is eating up more of
my usage in 15 minutes than I usually go through in a whole day.
MAM should be paying me and others in my situation for this.
I am now actually looking at other sites with a view to
migrating, if necessary.
