Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Free movement is what the EU uses to scatter the lesser type of person onto richer countries to take pressure off their home country , therefor trying to equalise the EU over a period of time .They have had ample time to suggest reform and lost one Nation because of this . I wouldn't pin my hopes on anything coming out of these tactics that are showing up daily . They lost but are trying a back door attempt to stay .

Canada has a good free trade agreement with the EU in principle.. It still has to be agreed by the Council and Parliament.
What is interesting is that it was agreed subsequent to a report "Assessing the Costs and Benefits of a Closer EU-Canada Economic Partnership" which was released in October 2008.
Now there is no doubt that a similar study (does it need a study?) would come to the same conclusion with regards to the UK:EU. But the process is so slow and cumbersome. As I've said before, you can't manage a business by committee. In the case of the EU, there are 27 countries, most with an economy smaller than London, that must have their say.

Boris is not liked by the Conservative MPs which is why he is not standing. He wouldn't have been one of the last two to be put to the wider membership.

Gove is not liked by the wider public, Liam Fox is regarded as weak by the Conservative MPs.

Are we sort of suspended from voting or using our veto now Haystack , could we threaten to stop a lot of plans the EU has , lets say if Turkey is asked to join can we veto it still .

We can still veto anything until we leave. Turkey aren't going to leave. There are at least 6 countries that will veto Turkey. It would take years for Turkey to be in any sort of financial position to join. Cameron was telling the truth.

There is no evidence that Turkey is going to join the EU. They have been trying since 1985 and are no further forward. Their economy can't meet the convergence criteria on tax, budgets, interest rates, inflation. Their human rights are also a problem. It is the work of a generation at least to fix these problems. The EU is dangling a carrot to Turkey so that they will behave better. In fact they are behaving worse with a virtual dicatator now.

May has been an excellent Home Secretary. She has been in post longer than any other since about 1890.

Agreed Hays. Home Secretary has long been the poisoned chalice but she has managed it well despite being in a staightjacket from the EU and ECJ as far as immigration is concerned.
