How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I hope all will be safely accounted for.

I'm still horrified and shocked as only saw the terrifying tv pictures late last night.

I heard from a best friend from my student days who was on another section of the king's cross line during the explosions. Thankfully, he's OK.

Surely you have the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the three attendees who didn't make it - and they also have yours?

I fear this is not looking good that they did not turn up and have not contacted you to explain their absence, etc, etc.

Oh dear!

:-(

Changing the subject slightly...

Planned outage on Betfair.

On Monday morning 11/07, between 7.30am and 10.30am, Betfair will be implementing the next major website and applications upgrade.

It's a shame they don't follow MoneyAM's example and do these things overnight.

Kayak - 08 Jul 2005 23:52 - 3957 of 10502

They can't do it overnight, a lot of their business is on Australian sports. They do choose what to them is a quiet time, it's just that the FTSE is not central to their business.

Piptrader - 08 Jul 2005 23:55 - 3958 of 10502

Ok, didn't know about the Aussie business.

So how about Sunday morning then? :-)

Scripophilist - 09 Jul 2005 16:50 - 3959 of 10502

All people accounted for now thankfully.

Great to hear scrip - thanks for keeping us updated

Harlosh - 09 Jul 2005 18:05 - 3961 of 10502

Good news. Thanks Scrip.

Scripophilist - 11 Jul 2005 12:00 - 3962 of 10502

I see the Betfair upgrade is on track this morning. LOL ;)

For those using any automation I suggest you check out the software ahead of trading the market. It often throws a few oddities up.

Pacific Pride 14:15 Ayr - 1.13

BTW all seems well with the site.

Scripophilist - 11 Jul 2005 14:23 - 3965 of 10502

I think there is a tactic here on short priced favourites. Lay before the off and buy back in running. Have seen few short priced favs not offer an opportunity like this.

Fundamentalist - 11 Jul 2005 14:58 - 3966 of 10502

Scrip

theory tends to work as long as you put you counter trade in the market as soon as the race is off and also if you dont get too greedy (have been caught occasionally by trying to wait for a better exit point)

have sent you a mail re charting on betangel

Fundamentalist - 11 Jul 2005 15:51 - 3967 of 10502

Bewrae trading the 16.00 at Newton Abbott - the favourite snoopy loopy will not race as it has not made it to the track

any thoughts on how to trade the 20.20 at Killarney?

compoundup - 11 Jul 2005 19:09 - 3969 of 10502

Pro is working well. Was far too un-greedy on the 2:15 at Ayr and only made 1 tick 3 times. I'll test your tactic next chance I get. Children on holiday stopped play early today :-) Edward

compoundup - 11 Jul 2005 19:13 - 3970 of 10502

Fundamentalist, I've heard of a 2 horse race but never watched one before.

Fundamentalist - 11 Jul 2005 20:28 - 3971 of 10502

compound

race worked out nicely :-)

Scripophilist - 11 Jul 2005 20:53 - 3972 of 10502

Missed it. I am having one hour on and an hour off. I had a nasty mountain bike accident over the weekend (I'll save you the detail). But I was in hospital most of Sunday getting put back together again.
