Iain,
Not sure whether this will help, but make sure pop blockers aren't becoming enabled when in your firewall, or your browser, and also check to see if you have java script enabled - click on tools, internet options, security, customer level - then scroll down and check java script and make sure the pop up blocker is not enabled.

I need to buy a colour laser for work. My main concerns are
1: Running costs
2: Reasonable quality photo / image print outs that don't look too "lasery" if you know what I mean. We will likely be producing a fair amount of photos with a lot of red / orange in them (retinal photos) so need to be able to replace different colour toners separately I think - has anyone any advice?

I've been looking for a laser printer for a while - still undecided but Computer Active magazine have been doing test features on them. You should be able to access the information through their website. What puts me off is that although initially the ink is supplied afterwards it cost approx 250 quid to replace.

Can anyone help please.
I have taken my laptop to family for the holidays and have managed to connect to the net via a wireless connection (password protected). They use AOL.
My problem is that there are certain sites, such as my broker, which I cannot access in as much as I get as far as putting in my logging in details and nothing happens.
Any ideas gratefully received
TIA
Kat

Kat, only suggestion I could make is once you've logged into AOL, minimise the AOL browser and launch Internet Explorer and that may sort it - some sites only like IE. I use Firefox as my browser but again, some sites (very few) don't work properly with it.

I use AOL and MyTrack (US version of MyBroker) and the combination is fine. It must be a local problem.

katcot, I believe port 9983 needs to be open outwards for Mybroker. Perhaps the port is blocked by AOL or the wireless router.

However, stupid I know, but, How do I open port 9983 and how do I find the port in the first place.
TIA

Well I don't know if AOL block any ports either in their network or in the AOL software, you would have to ask them. If they block them in the software then use Internet Explorer instead as described above. To check port blocking on the wireless router you would have to log into it and check the firewall settings, normally by clicking on
http://192.168.0.1, but you will probably need a password (the default is admin/password for Netgear). The other possibility is that your family member is running Norton or something similar with a firewall enabled.
By way of explanation, different types of traffic use different 'ports', e.g. port 80 for browsing (http) and ports 25 and 110 for email. Firewalls are often set to reject all traffic that is not using one of a small set of known ports.

I have a friend who cannot open his CD drawer with the button. He asked me if it could be opened from the keyboard. Any ideas please or does he just want a new CD unit?
