THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

max - gov't to help people get even deeper into debt with dirt cheap loans too? ..... totally irresponsible and absolutely nuts, and you know it

if you get yourself into serious debt - i've done it - then it is for the individual to dig himself out, and most assuredly it is not for the taxpayer to act as the bank of mummy and daddy

for those who get into difficulty through no or even little fault of their own, we have the benefits system, regardless of how flawed that may be - and of course it always has been and always will be despite some of the rantings and similar nonsense put about here

And seeing the multitudes, Jesus Cameron went up into a mountain; and when he was set, his disciples came unto him, and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying:

Blessed are the hedge fund managers - for they shall inherit the dividends.

Blessed are the wealthy - for theirs is the United Kingdom.

Blessed are they that offshore profits - for they shall be rewarded with deductible margins.

Blessed are the strivers - for they shall inherit a reduced salary, and fewer employment rights.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst - 'cause Foodbanks now exist in every part of the Big Society.

Blessed are the unmerciful - for they shall obtain knighthoods.

Blessed are the Charitable - for they shall receive an unpaid workforce, of people aged 16-24.

Blessed are the Taxpayers - for they shall continue to blame the poor for their own circumstances.

Blessed are they which are castigated for self-righteousness' sake - for theirs is the Department of Work and Pensions.

Rejoice, ye bankers, and be exceeding glad - for great is your reward in bonuses.

Jesus Cameron then took three loaves and two fishes, and distributed them to the masses, saying 'sorry, but that's all that there is for you. Tighten your belts, scroungers!' before returning to his palace, and gorging on champagne and packets of ambrosia custard.

Nigel Farage must throw open his books to an independent auditor if he is to remain a “credible” politician, the former head of Westminster’s sleaze watchdog has said.

That is a good idea.

Can we also have and enquiry into the present Cabinet's members tax arrangements before, during and for 5 years period after they get kicked out of power?

Can we also see the tax arrangements of the leading tory donors to the Nasty Parties propaganda kitty?

The above would make interesting reading.

Easter Clegg: Labour have created a festive treat in the shape of Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg... and it's 'completely hollow' and 'melts under heat'

Egg created in shape Nick Clegg's face as part of Labour campaign

UK - Survation poll in Eastleigh:

UKIP 32%
CON 28%
LDEM 27%
LAB 12%

First ever UKIP lead in any Westminster seat.

cynic - 21 Apr 2014 12:02 - 39785 of 81564

an interesting piece of selective selection Mr Sticky ..... rather more accurately below, though there are other bits too that you may wish to check out .....

The poll conducted by Survation puts Ukip in the lead with 32% (+4), Conservatives 28% (+3), Lib Dems 27% (-5) and Labour 12% (+2).

This is the first time Ukip have ever been predicted to win a seat in parliament although the spread between the top three parties is tight – this is still a three way marginal as it was in the 2013 by-election.

Despite the predicted support for Ukip in the 2015 election, Survation have also found that the Liberal Democrats are still topping the poll in Eastleigh for next months local elections but Ukip are marginally ahead of the Conservatives

The Lib Dems are polling 39%, Ukip 27% Conservatives 23% and Labour 9%.

MaxK - 21 Apr 2014 14:06 - 39786 of 81564

Eastleigh was a fairly safe Dim/Lib seat.

Not any longer, it's now a marginal.

This is where ukip are upsetting the applecart, they appear to be able to nick votes off all sides.

Who can predict the final tally when the old rulebook has been torn up?

Ukip accused of 'hissy fits' as immigration posters launched

Nigel Farage unveils poster campaign warning of consequences of EU migration

Nigel Farage has defended Ukip’s European election poster campaign as a “hard-hitting reflection of reality” after rival politicians attacked it as racist.

Ukip has launched its biggest-ever publicity drive ahead of next month’s European Parliament elections with a series of billboard advertisements warning that foreign migrants are “after” native jobs.

One poster shows a builder begging, with the caption: “EU policy at work. British workers are hit hard by unlimited cheap labour.”

Another states that 26 million unemployed people are “looking for work”, adding: “And whose jobs are they after?”

Under the slogan "take back control of our country", others complain that 75% of British laws are made in Brussels and that UK taxpayers fund the "celebrity lifestyle" of EU bureaucrats. The posters were funded with a £1.5 million donation from Paul Sykes, a former Tory donor.

Manuel,

Here is a chance for you to get ahead:

The report that PROVES this recovery
is an illusion

===========

Dear Manuel and Hazy one.,

Don’t be fooled.

It might feel like things are improving…

The government certainly want you to believe things are getting better. But the fact is, Britain is still trapped under a mountain of debt. And it’s a problem the government still urgently needs to solve.

That’s why we're writing to you today.

We believe the government is going to take the money it needs – slowly and quietly – from people like you. In fact, it’s already begun. For instance, as of the end of 2013, the government had quietly pushed through or announced 509 new tax rises. No doubt there will be more to come.

These “quiet taxes” will have huge repercussions for many savers, pensioners and investors across Britain. And if you don’t protect your money, you could find yourself frighteningly exposed to the government’s grasping new policies.

That’s why we have put together this report.

It’s designed to give you a much better understanding of this worrying situation. In fact, it PROVES that this recovery is an illusion. And if you read it now, it could give you a vital head start in protecting your savings.

For the sake of your savings, we urge you to read this report - click here.

We think you’ll be very glad you did.

Best wishes,

the bulk of my savings are tied up in the only truly wise (lucky actually) investment i ever made - a little freehold off notting hill

my only fear is some socialist gov't that thinks it'll spend, spend, spend and simultaneously try to over-tax the so-called rich as a populist and ill-conceived sop to the loony left
in fact, that is reasonably unlikely to happen, as even should labour get into power next time around, even with an overall majority (only a small chance), the realisation of reality quickly tempers pre-election rhetoric

and by the way, the recovery is most assuredly no illusion .... believe what you see and experience (as i do) and not what you read as it's nearly always put together by some geek with an axe to grind

cynic - 21 Apr 2014 17:34 - 39791 of 81564

"An overwhelming victory for UKIP will break the political mould in the UK, forcing Labour and the Lib Dems to back a full-scale referendum and intensifying the popular pressure for that to be staged as early as general election day 2015."

now that's a very interesting comment to come from NF, almost implying that he's quite pro-tory

Haystack - 21 Apr 2014 17:45 - 39792 of 81564

But what a silly statement. There won't be a referendum earlier that a couple of years post election. The Conservatives have been expecting a large EU protest vote. It is quite clear that the general election will be different as the polling data for the two elections are very different. In the GE, UKIP are far behind.

cynic - 21 Apr 2014 17:47 - 39793 of 81564

you rather miss the point, being too fixated on ukip and ge

New garden cities not required to include low-cost homes, minister says

Nick Boles says no stipulation would be imposed on schemes, despite Nick Clegg's pledge that they would help solve housing crisis

Rowena Mason, political correspondent

The Guardian, Monday 21 April 2014 17.02 BST

A Tory planning minister has admitted that the coalition's new wave of garden cities would not have to contain a single affordable home, despite Nick Clegg's claims that they would offer low-cost accommodation and help solve the UK's housing crisis.

As the government unveiled plans for new garden cities containing 15,000 homes each, it emerged that developers would not need to reserve a certain proportion of the properties for those struggling most with the cost of living.

Asked by Labour whether the first garden city in Ebbsfleet would contain low-cost homes, Nick Boles, a Conservative minister, said the government would "not impose a particular level of affordable housing for housing schemes".

"Unrealistic Section 106 agreements [which specify how many affordable homes should be built] result in no development, no regeneration and no community benefits," he added.

cynic - 21 Apr 2014 18:20 - 39795 of 81564

that's really stupid, though for houses in ebbsfleet will inevitably command good prices because of its commutability to london ..... nevertheless, if chelsea can have council housing (it does!) then why the hell not ebbsflet and similar?

MaxK - 21 Apr 2014 18:24 - 39796 of 81564

They don't want the oiks spoiling the area.

cynic - 21 Apr 2014 18:44 - 39797 of 81564

don't be such a pratt!
i'm amazed to hear that bit about the housing mix though, as it's usually ( i thought "always" nowadays) mandatory
