The poll conducted by Survation puts Ukip in the lead with 32% (+4), Conservatives 28% (+3), Lib Dems 27% (-5) and Labour 12% (+2).

This is the first time Ukip have ever been predicted to win a seat in parliament although the spread between the top three parties is tight – this is still a three way marginal as it was in the 2013 by-election.

Despite the predicted support for Ukip in the 2015 election, Survation have also found that the Liberal Democrats are still topping the poll in Eastleigh for next months local elections but Ukip are marginally ahead of the Conservatives

The Lib Dems are polling 39%, Ukip 27% Conservatives 23% and Labour 9%.

Eastleigh was a fairly safe Dim/Lib seat.

Not any longer, it's now a marginal.


This is where ukip are upsetting the applecart, they appear to be able to nick votes off all sides.

Nigel Farage has defended Ukip’s European election poster campaign as a “hard-hitting reflection of reality” after rival politicians attacked it as racist.


Ukip has launched its biggest-ever publicity drive ahead of next month’s European Parliament elections with a series of billboard advertisements warning that foreign migrants are “after” native jobs.


One poster shows a builder begging, with the caption: “EU policy at work. British workers are hit hard by unlimited cheap labour.”


Another states that 26 million unemployed people are “looking for work”, adding: “And whose jobs are they after?”


Under the slogan "take back control of our country", others complain that 75% of British laws are made in Brussels and that UK taxpayers fund the "celebrity lifestyle" of EU bureaucrats. The posters were funded with a £1.5 million donation from Paul Sykes, a former Tory donor.

my only fear is some socialist gov't that thinks it'll spend, spend, spend and simultaneously try to over-tax the so-called rich as a populist and ill-conceived sop to the loony left
in fact, that is reasonably unlikely to happen, as even should labour get into power next time around, even with an overall majority (only a small chance), the realisation of reality quickly tempers pre-election rhetoric

But what a silly statement. There won't be a referendum earlier that a couple of years post election. The Conservatives have been expecting a large EU protest vote. It is quite clear that the general election will be different as the polling data for the two elections are very different. In the GE, UKIP are far behind.

A Tory planning minister has admitted that the coalition's new wave of garden cities would not have to contain a single affordable home, despite Nick Clegg's claims that they would offer low-cost accommodation and help solve the UK's housing crisis.

As the government unveiled plans for new garden cities containing 15,000 homes each, it emerged that developers would not need to reserve a certain proportion of the properties for those struggling most with the cost of living.

Asked by Labour whether the first garden city in Ebbsfleet would contain low-cost homes, Nick Boles, a Conservative minister, said the government would "not impose a particular level of affordable housing for housing schemes".

"Unrealistic Section 106 agreements [which specify how many affordable homes should be built] result in no development, no regeneration and no community benefits," he added.
