How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Price of Liverpool has now shortened to 1.02/03. Just layed them at 1.03.

Grab some before it drifts out again!

Scrip I intended coming on the course on the 7th but for some reason I decided that I could not make it - glad now that I was not in town after all.

But this leads me to ask - is the event to be rescheduled? and if so when?

Same thing here. Planning another one soon?

And how about one 'out of town', one where we can drive to? Or do you need a room with a setup that say, has a laptop for each course delegate, sorta kinda?

Ross Comm lovely drifter in the 16:10, 2.50-3.05

There are no plans at the moment for another course. I am discussing the possibility of one but nothing firm at the moment. Please drop an email to pwebb@optic.ltd.uk and I can add you to the interested list and will let you know if something happens.

Dodgy, Rifleman in the 16:40 Bet Angel picked up a volume spike of 253k! Surely a dodgy trade.

Scripophilist - 13 Jul 2005 17:03 - 4001 of 10502

What a day this is turning out to be. Favourite at 1.32 beaten.

Liverpool 1-0 up. Come on TNS!!

bakko - 13 Jul 2005 20:09 - 4004 of 10502

2-0 up and kissed goodbye to the Liverpool lay!

compoundup - 13 Jul 2005 20:18 - 4005 of 10502

Having promised to sit on my hands I now have 2 on TNS at 1000:1. Now all I want is a decent set-play in TNS favour - not expecting a goal :-)

This was wierd today I grabbed a screen shot of it after I recovered from the surprise. Fortunately as I also recommend I was out of the market at this point.

Been playing with the Woods hole by hole market this morning. Good fun.

Fundamentalist - 14 Jul 2005 12:23 - 4010 of 10502

Not even finished the first round (some havent even started) and Woods is all but even money to win - may look to lay Woods once he finishes his round

Scripophilist - 14 Jul 2005 13:47 - 4011 of 10502

Keep your eye on the weather woods has always performed poorly when the weather has turned.

Did some work on golf rankings last night. I have been using a quasi pyschological method of ranking golfers according to their performances and how that affects their confidence. As any golfer knows confidence is critical. It seems to be pretty accurate at pickers losers and avoiding major winners. It suggests laying Goosen at the moment. I'm not going heavy on this but thought I would have a little pop. Goosen is only two shots off the lead at the moment and priced at 14's!!

Fundamentalist - 15 Jul 2005 10:15 - 4013 of 10502

is that based on the fact that he blew up completely on the last day at the US Open? Personally wouldnt be looking to lay Goosen before the weekend starts and probably not till Sunday morning.

2 of my 3 big priced e/w shots going well - Jiminez and Appleby

bakko - 15 Jul 2005 10:45 - 4014 of 10502

Could do with the Goose and others making a challenge on Tiger before choking as it'll help my lay on Tiger.
