mayflower are these shares now Cheap ? (MFW)

TGD - 10 Mar 2004 08:41

Mayflower was recommended by both investors chronicle last October and Shares Mag as a Buy at approx 20p Price is now 12.5p with last years div at 2.25p anyone think shares have been sold to low and a buying opportunity exists before results come in april (Bad news of 2 profit warnings already in price!)

scotinvestor - 10 Mar 2004 21:45 - 4 of 12

Mayflower management appears to be awful. Actually one of the mags above (I think it was shares mag) recommended at about 33p last year so now at about 13p, this is horrendous from the magazine tipsters.
However i think both magazines r awful. I can name a dozen companies from top of my head that have bombed. I pity the oedinary man in the street who picks up the mag and then suddenly buys without doing more research.
Dont know who the tipsters are but many should be sacked. I would do a much better job for them plus many others sitting in their bedrooms or houses gazing at our screens all day.

Regards to all shareholders in any company that you hold

So what do you suggest scott. Do you think I should pick the shares up at this cheap price in the hope that there will be some upturn in the medium term.

I Hold MFW, but wonder why - the yield isn't particularly attractive (and may go) and the company is pretty poor at advertising itself. This results in a poor market image - so the PW's and delays are no good to the loyal.
If they recover, or have a change in management (we get stuffed!)-then they might be value now( sub 12p). I assume a MBO would be at a small premium...but who knows it might be 10% above the low ( say 10.5p ) so Mucho Griefo.
On balance, I suggest you wait....... for some solid news.
You may miss some excitement, but you won't lose your cash.
They are expecting some good news: the Wind-farm vessel is back to Wales and GB may improve their chances by way of fossil-tax. I think the environmental issues are far from over, although "at sea" there is less noise and sight.
The e3 engine is said to be made public (in a car!) late 2004. -but that may be too late. Bad management is able to thrive in most markets - only now do we see them for what they are - poor.
If there is a MFW-recovery these shares are cheap, cheap, cheap.
Regards

rats sinking leaving ship and completly unconnected, MFW is suspended.
The anti-wind-farm groups will be pleased to know.

can anyone explain to me what happens to a persons shares say 500 worth, when for example MAYFLOWER goes into administration?

They go into limbo until the company is either wound up or the admistrators manage to bring the campany back from the brink.

If the company is wound up you loose the lot as shareholders are so far down the chain of creditors there is usually nothing left for them.

If they they do manage to put together a plan to rescue the company the shareholders may be asked to vote on the plan of reorganisation, although you probably wont get the full value of your investment back and in lots of cases shareholders don't get anything back at all, and they don't even get to vote on the plan

Mayflower enters administration

Earlier this week, Mayflower's market value fell by a third when a 20m black hole was found in its accounts.
