Traders' Thread - Monday 7th February (TRAD)

Limpsfield's Weekly Chart View
The strength in the UK continued last week with the FTSE cracking the 4900 barrier. Probably more impressive was the FTSE 250. This index moved above its year 2000 high and there are still plenty of individual shares in this part of the market that look to have plenty of upside left to come. The US markets were the strongest they have been all year, finally shaking off the weakness that has dogged them since the beginning of January.FTSE 100moneyamftsedaily.jpg Last weeks target for the FTSE was 4900 and Tuesday saw the index move above this level- the highest point seen since June 2002. The obvious next target is 5000 which is only 60 points away. Support was seen on Wednesday and Thursday at 4900 so that is the first level to watch if we see any weakness. Dips remain buying opportunities with only a break below the lows for the year around 4765 signalling the trend since last August is in trouble. This is a market that remains strong with no signs of weakness for now and the recovery is expected to continue. Intraday FTSEmoneyamftseintra.jpgDow Jonesmoneyamdowdaily.jpg Last week saw the US finally shake off this years slide. The next target for these markets is a run back to the highs from the end of last year in the 10,850/900 area on the Dow with a break through here setting up 11,000. Any weakness is expected to be short-lived - the big support is 10,368 the low for the year so far and only a break below here means it is time to worry about some real deeper weakness. For now, pullbacks are expected to be short lived with plenty of intra day support running from the 10,530/10,550 area upwards. Intraday Dowmoneyamdowintra.jpg Have a good week! Good morning traders!

Looking bright on the Asian markets this morning, after the US good close Friday. The Nikkei just closed almost 140 points up and Hong Kong is currently about 190 ahead.

Off to find the breaking news....

Happy Monday!

G.

PS Spaceman - 'Tis one of the things I can't change - the title. I'll get one of the techies to fix it later. Nice to get my one mistake of the week out of the way so soon.... ;-)

WHITBREAD CUT TO 'NEUTRAL' VS 'BUY' AT UBS

SPIRENT UPGRADED TO 'BUY' VS 'NEUTRAL' AT UBS

daves dazzlers - 07 Feb 2005 07:34 - 16 of 22

Morning all.

Druid2 - 07 Feb 2005 08:06 - 17 of 22

Morning all. Will FTSE breach 5000 and BARC 600 this week? The Observer's mention of 15% increase in profits and divi's plus speculation that it will be a target for a foreign bidder may help BARC.

Greystone - 07 Feb 2005 08:29 - 18 of 22

Morning Druid. I think BARC has the better chance of topping your figure. FTSE air gets a bit thin towards the 5000 mark...

Stan - 07 Feb 2005 09:13 - 19 of 22

Morning All,

Sold RR.+5.

Druid2 - 07 Feb 2005 09:29 - 20 of 22

5000 used to be support quite some time ago but now it could be resistance!!
