Mediwatch - Watch them rocket in 2005 !!! (MDW)

overgrowth - 12 May 2005 22:21

Mediwatch is a small company destined to become a much bigger fish by the time this year is out. Mediwatch are already a market leader in urological medical diagnostics equipement and are currently exporting their products throughout the UK, Canada, Europe, India and Japan. That doesn't leave much of the globe left for them to capture - until you remember the good ol' US and China. These are the two massive markets which are destined to be added to MDW's export client portfolio by the end of 2005.

The company is currently heavily undervalued. This is probably because Mediwatch's speciality is not a very glamourous business to be in as their equipment is used extensively to diagnose prostate cancer in men and other nasty urological conditions affecting both men and women. However, don't let that put you off investing in these guys. This is big business and is growing at an exponential rate as more and more people globally become health-aware as they get older.

Mediwatch normally supply their products through to global markets via distribution agreements. They already have the best of distribution partners in the well known US medical distributor CR Bard who supply Canada and Europe and GE Medical who supply Japan. The UK business is handled by Mediwatch's own dedicated sales team.

US FDA approval was gained for MDW's products at the start of last year, however a whole year of US legal wrangling meant that they were unable to seek a suitable partner for the crucial distribution agreement until the start of this year. This distribution agreement is expected by the board to have a "significant effect" on the share price so they are reluctant to give any clues as to when it will be signed, sealed and delivered. The general consensus is that this US distribution agreement will be announced in July/August. In China and Hong Kong, MDW have done things the other way round. They have set up distribution agreements with major Asian medical equipment distributors and have stock already out there waiting to sell into the markets - all they are waiting for is SDA approval (which is a "rubber stamp") from the Chinese authorities - this can take anything up to 12 months to come through and MDW applied during Autumn 2004 - so even more good news coming soon this year. Epidemiological data from British Association of Urology conference last year: On average 30-45% of all men between the age of 50 and 70 have at least one PSA test per year in the US / Italy / Australia.

If that's not enough to convince you to invest a few hard earned coppers in MDW, they are also developing a PSA stick test product (PSAWatch) which is revolutionary and causing some excitement in medical circles. This product can also be adapted (at very low cost) for a whole spectrum of medical disciplines from Cardiology to Veterinary Practice! This product is likely to be released in the next few weeks. Philip Stimpson the CEO has said that this product is going to be their "gold mine" - I'm sure it will prove to be ours too.

Checking though my e-mails I noticed this comment from the Mediwatch CEO Philip Stimpson:

"Regarding Prostate Awareness week; we have sponsored a rally car which is travelling all over the UK bearing the Mediwatch name and logo which we hope will increase awareness of prostate cancer and highlight the name of Mediwatch. We are also putting together an article relating to our devices which we hope to release in June at the BAUS exhibition and although the timing is not right to capitalise on Prostate Awareness week, we hope to catch the eye of the British Urology Surgeons."

This was in response to a question about PR in general. However, the interesting thing is that Mediwatch are planning to put together an article relating to their devices in June - this would be a perfect time to get the PSA test in the product porftfolio also don't you think? If this is the case then the official launch should be very soon.

The BAUS conference/exhibition runs from 27th June to 1st July at the Glasgow SECC.

It helps that the MMs don't hold any stock in MDW at present, so plenty of buying bumps up the price very quickly (unfortunately likewise for selling of course lol!).

The chart is looking good for a significant solid rise, and all the fundamentals are in place to back that up and keep the price at new much higher levels.

As soon as the newsflow starts, I don't think we'll be able to get a word in edgeways on this BB, in the meanwhile we can just sit back and watch the beginning of what promises to be a long sustained price increase.

overgrowth - 18 May 2005 10:30 - 13 of 1497

An example of how quick this price will shift up from smuge104 on advfn:

"level 2 is now 2 vs 1, kbc are at 8p after that we have 2 @ 8.25 and 2 @ 8.5, so if the buys continue to come in I think we will see nearer 9p on the offer by friday.

it is taking small buys of 30k to knock the mms of the offer."

Looking like the next Stanelco folks!

petralva - 18 May 2005 11:18 - 14 of 1497

hope so 2!

Another tick up - looking very healthy indeed !

Overgrowth - what should we read into a 10% increase in SP but with low volumns?

overgrowth - 18 May 2005 13:32 - 17 of 1497

oakapples,

I think that we will see low volumes in MDW trading until the RNS's come out, and then the trading screens will be a sea of blue.

I noticed a good level 2 explanation from smudge104 on advfn:

"When the 50k buy came thru it moved kbc from 8p to 9p, the 2 mms who were then next in line were sat at 8.25, they moved straight away to 8.75 which is above the offer, this indicates they have no stock to sell and therfore do not want to get involved, hence they are quoting 7.25 to sell and 8.75 to buy both below the current bid and above the current offer."

Essentially what is happening is that the MM's don't carry stock, so if people want to buy, they have to try and drum up the equivalent amount of sellers - they do this by raising the price at which you can sell (bid price) and quite often the price at which you can buy (offer price) will also be hiked up raising the mid price. As I mentioned before, any sustained buying will send the share price into orbit!

What we are witnessing is a slight resurgence of interest in Mediwatch as we get closer and closer to points in the year where they could be expected to make RNS announcements. I don't think that there are any new buyers coming in yet (we'll have to wait until the actual news releases for that to happen), rather investors who've been sitting on the sidelines are coming back in and long termers are topping up before the price shoots up past 10p.

andysmith - 18 May 2005 13:35 - 18 of 1497

Wish I'd topped up last week at 6.65p

overgrowth - 18 May 2005 13:49 - 19 of 1497

Still worth topping up andy - I think the sp is likely to be around the 20p mark shortly after the US distribution deal news.

robstuff - 18 May 2005 15:43 - 20 of 1497

Your new thread seems to have done the trick Overgrowth, but we're six mths down the line after the legal probs sorted out and still no US agreement, I don't know but how long does it take?

overgrowth - 18 May 2005 16:01 - 21 of 1497

robstuff - I agree we must be pretty damned close to that deal now.

Having said that, the deal is not simply flying to the US, chatting to a few medical distributors, negoatiating a deal and away you go.

It's a bit more complicated than that, and assuming that there will be a great demand from the US, MDW will have to ensure that they have the production capacity to supply it. It is possible that elements of production are being licenced out to a production arm of a large US distributor to ease the burden on MDW's UK operations (which will need to continue to supply the rest of the global markets).

This sort of operation takes time and a lot of arranging, but at the end of the day it takes away the onus from MDW to create massive amounts of stock at large cost upfront.

petralva - 18 May 2005 16:03 - 22 of 1497

i see 131.000 odd taken at 9p....

optomistic - 18 May 2005 16:12 - 23 of 1497

Must be above the NMS and that must be the premium larger buyers will have to pay. Not be long before the MMs will have to take some stock on board.
