Thought for the day

Tomorrow is another day, today will be no more then history.

;>)

goldfinger - 18 Apr 2005 16:26 - 49 of 102

Well on the up side I have just worked out that my entire portfolio is 3.9% down for the day (that might still change)so its not that big a loss, on the downside if I had sold first thing I would be just over 1.4% down but I would have had to incurr buying back charges and spreads. I did think about that last night as one option. Theres also the fact that we had a bad day friday so say add on another say 2% as it was nowhere near as bad as today and I had some winners. So overall down about 6% since late last week.

I think I have been right to hold and not sell off. In the past I have done so when I thought the markets were going medium term against me. I still may have cocked up on my decision, but I just feel this is a short term retractment.

Anybody else have any portfolio figures??????????????????? ideas on wether we should hold or sell?.

cheers GF.

Accidental post - sorry. Incidently, finished entirely red.

Dow strengthening from early lows. Strong close today and tomorrow would hopefully give us a midweek bounce. looking more positive as the evening draws on. Lost a lot today, but only on paper, I always have been bad with stop-losses!

Yes Goldfinger im 12.2%down as i bought recently ,so far this has wiped out two thirds of the profit i made this year,,so im holding and hoping,,surely it has to get better..JB..

brain2brain - 18 Apr 2005 20:04 - 54 of 102

I hadn't thought to have a look at the whole of my portfolio. To be honest I was a bit frightened to see the results of the carnage. But strangely enough it is only down 2.6%. I shall sleep a lot better for that. Cheers GF

Finished all red. Correct sd sold gmc but still on my watch list... bu.....er

stockdog - 18 Apr 2005 20:26 - 55 of 102

GF - I'm about 5-6% down on the two days too. Sting in the tail for me was an unexpected final results and equity raising announcement on PGI, just when I'd given up paying too much attention after lunch. That's nearly 1% in itself down this afternoon.

I sold nothing (think, rabbit in headlights) , but was pleased to see that some of my heavier recent positions were holding relatively steady during the day. Mostly it was my quite healthy profit positions that came under attack - am thinking of adopting the 25dma as a stop loss for those stocks that make a large initial rise of 50-200% with no developed chart as a guide. I can always buy back in lower at no loss if they stabilise below say the 50dma. Trouble with a 15-20% stop loss with volatile stocks is you get stopped out on temporary retracements. Look at ASC, BFC, DOO, FOGL, PGI for examples of what I mean I could have done as the chart broke down across the 25dma. It can be used on SEO currently.

What will tomorrow bring?

Oh what a laugh.......didnt see this thread as disappeared to the garden after the shock this morning, I cut 3 foot off the conifers in a rage, they are green also but then i felt closer to that blue sky tottering on the top of my 15' ladder :>)

Ended 12 red, 9 green but then PDL and ZIM havnt moved for ages (both suspended as im sure u all know :>) but at least they were safe!

Could have been worse, my oil and mining portfolio that im watching (and dont own) was 58 red and 10 green!!!!! and Stockdog, what will tomorrow bring?? not sure i want to know! Good luck everyone xx

goldfinger - 18 Apr 2005 23:46 - 57 of 102

Bring on Mystic Meg. Dow down 16 I think at close. Tuesday night is the biggy after hours in the US Intel report. Could decide which way the markets go in the short/medium term. My IT snitch tells me they are going to be good figures, Im not so sure myself but he normally comes up with the goods.

cheers GF. Fingers crossed.
